I guess every rule has an exception because man that is a beautiful kitI on purpose bought blonde hoops for my Canopus kit. I like them better than the matching hoops.

The Ludwig implementation looks just "correct". I agree I don't like the Gretsch and Sonor look. It's not "cheap", just a bit out of whack. I also don't think "production line" looks cheap - guess I'm just not post-industrial yet.But are finish correct hoop inlays considered matching or is the backing black hoop anathema to the purest.
Ok, fair enough, the photo is a modern Gretsch USA.The Ludwig implementation looks just "correct". I agree I don't like the Gretsch and Sonor look. It's not "cheap", just a bit out of whack. I also don't think "production line" looks cheap - guess I'm just not post-industrial yet.
How can one explain what's wrong with even an inlay hoop. My attention goes to the hoop..it stops a natural flow. It even causes the drum to appear shortened. When I saw Vinnie unwrapping his new cobalt blue kit on eBay they were stunning. The hoops matched and it was one beautiful flow. I go so far as to think the claws even look better on a matching hoop. On some DW kits they'll sometimes have a matching outer with the natural inner portion..i don't even care for THAT. My Gretsch turquouse sparkle has matching hoops and is beautiful. My Sonor 3000 blue sparkle kit has matching outer natural inner hoop and when I see it onstage my attention immediately goes there which totally bugs me. I want to have a body shop match the entire hoop. But are finish correct hoop inlays considered matching or is the backing black hoop anathema to the purest.
Yeah, I'm thinking of that photo. Gretsches with matching hoops look great to me.Ok, fair enough, the photo is a modern Gretsch USA.
It works for me.But are finish correct hoop inlays considered matching or is the backing black hoop anathema to the purest.
Are metal hoops considered non matching?
Beautiful kit and unlike Bo! you didn't forget your rug! .Except for the t rods, I like my inlayed hoops
And I was partially against them.

I have a set I painted, and tried something different. Instead of an inlay in the hoop, I painted the inlay to match and continue the design on the shells, extending it into the hoop. Turned out pretty cool, and they certainly match, but you have to line them up just right!
Sonor thing. I'd call a metal hoop matching if it's got the inlay. Are metal hoops considered non matching?
