We're all learning. That's what's good about this thread. Treading on sensitive area requires a little practice.

I will also take back those nasty things, about you Aussies, being wanabe Kiwi's.

And also, yes the Aussie football team might do well in the world cup, So long as they dont play England.

Just watched the Walmart episode of South Park. It was about how we keep on making the same mistakes and keep replaying the same scenarios, just with different actors. Just like nhzoso's comment.

If I'm the first person to get peeved and decide there are better things to do than be aggravated on a web forum I'll eat my hat. And there will be more after me and more after that again HAHAHAHOOHOOHAHA (blame the NY cheer)

There's an idea for a thread - The mistakes we keep making.

Keep on stalkin', John baybee! When the phone breather called me (I think it was 1996) at first I thought it was a flatmate having a joke from the other phone. So I was egging him on, saying "Come on! That's not panting. Is that the best you can do?" etc - and he kept panting harder!

Then my flatmate walked in the room. I went "Oh [expletive]" and hung up :) Weird, since these types are supposed to get off on fear; this guy seemed to emjoy the encouragement. Go figure.

Happy NY all!

Heh, only we can tell the difference.

sufc, deep down you know England are doomed. It's just the natural order of things. What goes up must come down. Night follows day. England snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

Still, hope is a wonderful thing - you can have years of feeling good with only a brief sharp pain when you realise the awful truth. I hear that beer helps :)

Mate.

Night follows day, ying and yang, up and down, even swings and roundabouts, but come on, its all been down, yang, roundabout, no opersite.

We have been dreaming since 1966.

We are the best team in the world, we never win.

Still this is the wrong thread for this topic.

Acceptance of others is a wonderful thing.
Being able to disagree w/ someone without hurting that person's feelings is a great life skill.
Tact: The ability to tell someone to go to hell, and actually make them look forward to the trip.QUOTE]

This is awesome Larry! I had to call my bass player right away and share it with him. We had a great laugh and agreed that we have to share it with the guitar player! :-D

Ah, screw it - you all suck at drumming and your technique is some of the worst I've seen.

I'm the best.... deal with it.

So I went on a cruise for a week, I come back, and where's Pollyanna? I'm really steamed about this....She is such a rich contributer, and she elevated this sausage fest to a place that was so much more enjoyable than before she joined....
I know what happened, her feelings were really hurt and I really just want to express my disgust about the outcome of the whole situation. She was like a glue that brought everyone together and, for me, made it a much happier family.

Let me get something straight here. We are all in the same boat here. If we tear down our brothers and sisters we are inflicting harm on ourselves. Her posts were my personal favorite part of these boards. I am genuinely mad that she was hurt. She in no way deserved that. I'm also really sad that she's noticeably absent from the threads, so much so, that I fear I may lose interest.

Maybe if enough people show her some support, she'll return.

I for one miss her terribly, and want her back.

She deserves an apology, not sure if that will happen, but a show of support for her is definitely in order.

I miss you Polly! Please come back!
Seriously, if ANYONE takes what's said on an online forum to heart, they should stay in their mommy's cellar and watch reruns of the Price Is Right.

Who CARES what anyone says about or to you?? Will it change ANYTHING that you say, think or do in life?? Answer: NO!!!!

Grow a pair (even if it's anatomically incorrect), there's no crying in baseball, and in online forums.

Have to respectfully disagree with the above. I care, and it has altered my thinking, and therefore my actions. I'm glad there are sensitive people, heck, I'm one of them.

While a little blunt and heavy-handed, I have to agree with you for the most part here.

For the most part, you are correct. You shouldn't let things that other people say get to you. However, this is a community and a lot of people make friends here, even if only over the internet, and it can cause them to be more sensitive, and I understand that. Of course, if it's not one of your friends here, you shouldn't let it bother you.

Sometimes you're going to get in heated arguments, but you should really just let it go. If it;s one of your friends, talk it over through PM's and work it out.

Some have the mental dicipline to detatch, others don't. A mirror of the wide variety of characters we all encounter. I'm in the latter catagory. I think the ability to see a forum such as DW for what it is, is, at least in part, dependent on age and forum familiarity. Those who are brought up on a cyber diet probably have a more realistic "arms length" view of the media, whereas those to whom a forum is merely an extended socialising means, act according to their default character, whatever that may be. A generalisation I know, but probably not far short of the truth.

And then there are just the small percentage of antagonistic idiots;

Ah, screw it, sometimes I suck at drumming and my technique is way away from inspirational but I rocked the house down last night, got 6 encores, got paid a ton of money, was treated like a king, had 600 people dancing the night away from the first number and got just the greatest buzz with my band mates.

(you wish I was kidding) KIS.

I'm not sure I've known of a woman being told to grow a pair before. Less sure still that it would be desirable, although I wouldn't judge men who might think that's a good thing. Whatever floats your boat, eh?

KIS baybee - ya dun good :) Six encores! How many repeats in that lot?

Polly, You're still kickin Butt and taking down names I see!
I've seen many people state in the past that they wish that there were more women that posted on DW.
They finally get a women to post frequently, and what do they do? They try and chase her away! LOL

Bob, sometimes I think men like the idea of a woman but can be disappointed with the reality :)

Is being chased away worse than being forced to grow a pair? Should we displace that backbeat or play it on the three? Is that the best fill to play before the shout section?

The mysteries of life ...

I didn't post on the Money Beat thread because I felt that It didn't matter what I thought about the beat. The Money Beat sells records. It is a beat that works. It has been around for a long time. It will be around for a long time. I use it often! It is just another rhythm tool. Like Spang-A-Lang in jazz.

Ok, you got me. 2 planned encore numbers, 1 jamming number (Mustang Sally), 1 requested repeat (Sunshine of your love) and two repeats because we ran out of tracks (Van Halen, Jump & a really rocked up version of the Doobie Brothers, Long Train Running). Great night though & 4 new bookings made on the night, three for over £600 and one for over £1,000 plus a day headlinig slot at the annual chopper club festival in July. All this for a band completing only it's second gig, Whohoooo!

Actually, I've only used the $ beat occasionally over the years. There's usually an extra accent hanging around because I prefer songs in a set not to sound too same-y. I'be probably listened to too much Bill Bruford - if that's possible :)

That's always the challenge, to think of something that will help give a song a distinctive feel within a set, something that's all its own.

KIS, of course you'd be repeating songs, and punters who like rock will listen to Sunshine of Your Love till the cows come home :) My old band used to keep one song in reserve for the encore, so on a good night we'd have to repeat, usually a song that had gone down well earlier. The punters don't care - they just want more sound and vibe. Three more gigs stemming from the NYE one - brilliant!
