How noisy is a chain drive pedal supposed to be?

To give an update, Sweetwater says the pedal is within spec based on the video I sent them (after consulting with DW drums). Interesting. I have no problem with it considering the noise pretty much disappears if you put a paper towel piece on top of the sprocket. This may also be a good candidate for a strap drive conversion. I've never been able to tell the difference feel-wise but it's safe to assume it'll be quieter that way.

"lube the chain"..
maybe
might have been sitting on the shelf/in box for 2 years +/-

vaseline it then wipe it off with a towel and exercise it.
wear it in.

Brush vaseline on with a new unused paint brush. wipe excess off w/ a paper towel.
Be as smooth and silent as an Electra 225

I'll give this a try, there's no grease on the chain currently. Thanks

Hmmm….I think if you made a big enough “stink” with Sweetwater….they would take it back. But if you really like the feel of this pedal and lubing it quiets it down sufficiently, you might as well keep it. Returns are such a hassle remotely

I have two DW5000's with chains; a single and a double. They both are a bit noisy, but nothing that you'll hear from more than 5 feet away.

Strap conversion is great. If you need assistance I have a bunch of photos that I took during one pedal I converted. Just be sure to take your time and loosen the Lock-tite with a heat gun or hair dryer during the process.

I have the same issue with a brand new DW 5000 turbo. The noise is only when the chain is returning to the sprocket on the rebound. Putting a piece of paper towel under the chain where it meets the sprocket solves it but not exactly ideal. I checked the alignment of the chain by adjusting where it meets the footboard & when visually lined up straight, it still makes the noise. I briefly had the accelerator version of this pedal for a day and don't remember any such noise, but the sprocket on that one is smaller.

I see the thread is months old. OP, what did you end up doing?

Were they both single chain? Single chains are going to be noisier because each link slides on top of the cam teeth. Double chains don't use that system.

It's just part of the pedal--it's the same with others of the same model. I've had the paper towel on since September, no issues other than it being slightly unsightly.

These were both double chain, so I'm a bit confused.

I just got a brand new DW 5000 single chain from Sweetwater and what struck me right away was how noisy it is. There's a fairly pronounced click whenever the chain holes reconnect with the sprocket on the travel backwards, which I don't remember at all when I tried out the same pedal at Sam Ash. And I don't have it with me but I also don't recall my 90s DW 5000 doing this. But luckily laying a paper towel piece on top of the sprocket takes away about 90% of the clicking noise and the pedal plays great--it just seems funny to have to do this for a pro level pedal. Is that kind of noise normal for (single) chain pedals?
I have a inexpensive double chain from Amazon and it makes no noise at all. Could it be some misalignment?

Old ones as well. I have a few 80s Camco single chain pedals with sprockets. They all make this noise. But they play so nice that I’m willing to make this sacrifice.

Yeah after using it for a day, I don't think there's an issue. I only noticed noise after unboxing it and having it near my ears. Behind the drums it's quiet & feels nice & smooth.
