Gretsch USA?

like Buddy Rich/ Gene Krupa sets/ back in the day?
Gretsch was more a city/orientated/ cab ride or catered to the cab loader drummers
Each brand had their market +/-
maybe? like..

Gretsch involvement in say (supplying/going after) the grade school / high school band market (compared to Sling/Ludwig)
was a surprise when I saw my local public elementary school had 60s RB 10x14 etc. Blue sparkle Gretsch marching drums..one day at a parade..I noticed and said whoa. "still in service"..

Might be I don't think (...) Gretsch were "that big" they had to find "niche".
Altho they did have a nice largish, Building/ couple floors/ in New York..to build their wares.

Still there with the big Gretsch name on top -To best of my knowledge.

Slingerland/ Ludwiig were larger, more a mid-western open space builders
There was a video of a Fred Jr. walking tour of the NYCity building can't find it..

"that building even looks like a 20/12/14" sized.. ; )
and (burgundy) Sparkles and (Cadillac green and Copper) glosses, lit up the small smokey city clubs (rather than white (and black) marine pearls?

Why don't you see Gretsch USA , WMP in bigger sizes?
WMP?

Custom kits now are VERY expensive & bar bashers like me just don't have the capital for that.

That's true it did happen (occasionally) Figured it'd be lone Louie.
Max too on rare occasion

Back in the early 2000s I owned a WMP Stop Sign badge Gretsch kit 22/24/13/14/16/18 - got them in a trade for a Roland TD-5 eKit . I definitely got the better of that trade .
That was no TRADE! You ROBBED that poor naive man! Congratulations! Good for you! Nicely played, sir!🫡

Sonny Payne had a big Gretsch set, although I can't really tell what color it is. It almost looks like a white sparkle here.

Not to get OT but Sonny Payne was the freaking man!!

Maybe they’re just more appealing in smaller kits and sizes. A big kit with big shells….that’s a lot of white and bright white at that.

Because they're custom order drums, and it would appear that nobody is custom ordering them in bigger sizes, in WMP.

I think you're right. When you get to this level of drums, you pretty much order what you want when buying new. Colors and finishes are all over the place on custom orders being sold on the used market.
