Hi folks,

Wondering if there is something fishy about this DW solid shell snare?
I thought DW stop using gold badges by this time, or am I mistaken?
Is this legit, or has it been put together by someone else?

Cheers,

The used the gold badges on Craviotto shells quite some time after 1997 (when the they started with their own shells and went from black/gold to black/silver 2nd gen)

Also for kits with gold hardware they used the badges after '97.

So it could be quite possible they had badges left over in '07 and used these.

My first DW kit was born in May of 1997 with black badges.

Generally speaking the gold badges entered the market in 2004.

Is your kit possibly a birch one? I now of the story where they produced some with these mini lugs. The lacquer on that beauty does looks older then 2007, more like 1997, like this one:

None the less, I do I see a pattern where they used the left over badges left for the kits too.

A time-line of DW badges:

My Collectors kit is from '06 and has the gold badge with silver writing. Not the black badge with gold writing like you show. Im not a DW aficionado, so I cant speak of the solid shell snares and any strange badges that would only be used in certain circumstances, but for a shell made in '08, I would think it would have the gold badge with silver writing.

Update: I asked the vendor (UK eBay) and he became very evasive, eventually he said this:

'i bought like that i thing someone change this badges i know this is strange anyway shell is important for me sound of drum looks realy nice .
thanx for chat'

I decided to let someone else buy this snare.
Thanks for the help people- I really appreciate it.
