Gigging: bring your most expensive snare? Or not?

I don't bring the Savage to many gigs because it weighs 28 pounds.

But yeah I bring my Dunnetts to gigs. Like today's gig:

I brought the shallower Dunnett to Peru last month.

I'm not gonna buy it if I'm not planning on playing it.
Now that's a great 'office' view!

To add: there will be another band playing on Sunday, we will play first.
The 2nd band will be using my Gretsch set but I told them the drummer should use his own snare, cymbals and pedal.

The only snare I avoid gigging is my Acrolite prototype. The P83 strainer isn't the most reliable for rock and pop stuff although it's the perfect 60s snare sound.

Other than that I use whatever I fancy. I buy all of my snares to be able to handle every genre. As long as you keep them in tip top condition and don't let anyone else us them you'll be fine. Keep some spare snare ribbon just in case and some gels and an o-ring for crap sounding rooms too.

I've got a 14x6.5 Worldmax (Black Magic) that is as good live as anything. If you're really worried about something happening use that

It's not that I worry much something might happen but just a thought that came to mind and I wondered how other drummers think about it.
I think the BM - ready to go in a hardcase - will be the one who gets a beating this Sunday ;)

I have my first gig in 12 years coming up next Sunday with my new classic rock/pop band - wish me luck! - and was thinking which snare I would take.

My latest buy and most expensive Sonor Kompressor Aluminium 14 x 8:

Or my cheapest, a € 30 Millenium Piccolo Steel 14 x 3,5 with a custom paint job:

I have some more snares I could pick and in the past usually took my Ludwig Black Magic 14 x 6,5, it always performed great:

So, if you own more than one snare, which one do you bring?
A 12 year hiatus? Bring the best because I'm sure you'll be bringing "your" best.

Good luck!👍

You got this, have a great gig on Sunday.

I'm gigging on electric drums again on Saturday so I'm jealous of anyone using real drum!

Thanks! I joined the band in January and we played about a dozen times together but we got the 20 songs down pretty well, last rehearsal went great without any issues. Tonight another rehearsal and then ready for the gig, looking forward to it :)

“ If you’ve got it flaunt it” . The original quote was not about drummers kits but a woman speaking about her dress sense - but it fits IMV!

I own expensive gear, but I gig anything and everything I want to. I don't own any "case queens." Everything gets played.

I don't buy anything I'd be afraid to play out with.

Yes, I take my best two snares to a gig. I play the best one, and I use the other one as a back-up snare. I actually had to use the back-up snare only once, but I was glad that I had it. Peace and goodwill.

I bring two Supraphonics to every gig - one shallow and one deep. While the LM402 is indeed my most expensive snare, I gig it because it is so darn versatile.

The room doesn't seem to matter when you're playing a Supra - it's going to sound perfect for the situation. That's my experience, anyway.
