Yup. Played one of those a couple of weeks ago. I found out that the guy who booked us is pretty much a con artist who uses his ex/retired MLB player status to his advantage. It was supposed to be a great-paying gig, and we've still not gotten paid. I'm pretty sure we won't.
 
I really have nothing to add, but I just wanted to say that I appreciate all of the responses. It lets me know that I'm not alone in all of this.

When I played punk music, I ended up playing a two-piece (kick and snare) and that made life easier.
I felt hard done by until I saw the guys who had to deliver beer kegs to some of those dives. No fun. Imagine doing that for a living.

yeah...I almost always played whatever kit was there, as the gigs were usually sort of impromptu a lot

and we weren't rich enough to have kegs - and most of the shows I played were Straight Edge shows, but if drink was there, it was byob

but lugging kegs anywhere for a living would suck....
