I read and read and read and read about Vistalites. I begged off buying a kit - I'm not quite there yet. But I did buy a 14x5 snare.
It has none of the unwanted characteristics I read about. It is all positive. I put a Remo PSIII without dot on the batter side. A fantastic snare sound. I can play it very softly and get a lovely snare-y response. Play it loud and nothing nasty happens. If I was better at tuning and choosing heads I betcha I could use it for jazz. As of now it will go into service for our blues band. Used it at practice with guys a few times and it sounded great. Our guitar player is a sound engineer. He has a nice collection of snares all tuned for his studio. The Vistalite sounded better, he thought, for live performances it has a bit more character than what his studio snares have. It's tuned medium-high and no choking. Very responsive. I'm pretty excited.
I may start collecting Vistalite snares. The one I have is wonderful.
