Find a Drum Teacher Here

Hey all,

I'm not posting for myself but for MY drum teacher, Rob Blaschke from Bristol, Connecticut, USA. Rob is too modest to advertise himself!

NAME: Rob Blaschke

COVERAGE AREA: Located in Bristol, CT in between Hartford and Waterbury. It's easily worth a drive to take lessons from Rob.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston.

LESSON DETAILS: A graduate of Berkelee College of Music in Boston, MA, Rob teaches out of his home with two drumsets - one for the student and one for the teacher. He's a jazz cat who can play many different styles (funk, rock, metal, latin) and will help guide students to whichever style they're interested in. I really appreciate is the amount of lesson material he gives out to his students. Lots of great exercises from many different books. Rob has helped me not only with skills on the kit but tuning, timing, ear training and really exploring the history of drums and drummers. Rob can cater to any skill level and really goes out of his way not only to make his students feel comfortable, but push them! He gigs and teaches but is always looking for more students. With about 30 years of teaching experience, he really knows his stuff. Check out his website below for more info!

CONTACT:
Phone - (860) 583-7675

I highly recommend Rob Blaschke for anyone looking for a drum teacher in the Connecticut area. Feel free to PM me if anyone has more personal questions. It took me a while to find a teacher I was happy with but Rob has exceeded all my expectations. Drummerworld user approved!

Daniel Bédard

COVERAGE AREA:
Montréal

VENUE (WILL TEACH AT PUPIL'S HOME or HAS A TEACHING STUDIO or BOTH):
I teach at my studio or via Skype

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Daniel Bédard started drumming back when he was 13 years old first inspired by the punk-rock bands of the day. After having played those beats for a while, he then discovered the drumming of rock legends John Bonham and Neil Peart which inspired him to push the limits of his drumming further. After having heard the rhythms of Tony Williams and the Zappa drummers, he then spent the next three years studying at the Cégep de Drummondville with Paul Brochu and Camil Bélisle. He then went on to study at the Université de Montréal where he got a jazz studies degree with Paul Brochu and Gilbert Fradette. Daniel also had a private lesson with Peter Erskine and participated in a masterclass with Horacio « El Negro » Hernandez.

After getting his degrees, Daniel went on to play with several bands. We’ve seen him on stage with bands like Sharcüt, Pawa Up First, Paul Cargnello, Alexandre Désilets, Robert Charlebois, Jérôme Charlebois, Michel Donato, The Johnny Cash Show Tribute, Mahjorbidet and several others. He played at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Francofolies de Montréal, Osheaga, Woodstock en Beauce, the Festijazz de Rimouski, the Festival Franco-Ontarien d’Ottawa and on Musique Plus. On top of that, Daniel just started writing for the international drumming magazine, Modern Drummer. His articles will soon be featured in the educational section. Nowadays, Daniel spends his time between playing on stage and in the studio and teaching his students.

I've been teaching for about 12 years now and I've had a lot of students. I really love doing it and I take good care in bringing the student to the next level. My enthusiasm for drumming is infectious and I share it with my students.

If any of you would like the chance to study with one of the best teachers ever to come out of the Pac NW you should really check out Mark Ivester http://www.cornish.edu/music/faculty/mark_ivester/who is now teaching at Donn Bennett Drum Studios on Thursdays.

Mark is a master of Brazilian, Latin, Bop and pop styles and most important an accomplished educator. I have taken lessons from some good players here and there but Mark is on another level when it comes to teaching. He has a proven curriculum that works and is not just winging it like so many others do.

In the past he was the guy I thought I could never get a lesson with unless I was at one of the college he teaches at so I was really excited to here he was teaching at Don Bennett.

Here is a couple examples of his work.

FOR A VERY LIMITED TIME I PLAN TO PICK UP A FEW MORE STUDENTS FOR LESSONS ON SKYPE. RIGHT NOW IT IS ONLY $20 A HALF HOUR, YOU PICK THE SUBJECT...HANDS STUDY, DRUM SET, VIDEO EVALUATION. IT'S UP TO YOU

Matt Smith is an award winning jazz percussionist, hip hop mixologist, and radio/television personality who in 2006, at age 16, won the WFD World's Fastest Drummer Extreme Sport Drumming competition in the Fastest Hands category. Matt is the son and grandson of two accomplished jazz musicians. He was introduced to the drums at age 9, when Louie Bellson (one of his father's performing acquaintances) gave him his first pair of drum sticks. Matt's official début occurred at age 12, when he performed for a jazz combo on Romanian National Television. At age 14, he recorded a début album under his own name (Coltrane Redeux) featuring an all star European jazz lineup. In 2005, Matt entered the Louie Bellson National Drumset Competition, and became the youngest finalist in that competition's history.

From 2005-2008 he held a number of speed drumming world records, and in 2007, set the world speed endurance record when he performed 5,132 single strokes in five consecutive minutes. On June 26, 2008 Matt set a traditional grip world speed record, when he recorded 1132 single strokes played in 1 minute breaking the longstanding record once set by Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini.

Since 2005, Matt has performed and been interviewed on numerous American media outlets, including PBS, CBS Radio and CNN. In 2008, a PBS news segment featuring Matt and drummer Johnny Rabb was nominated for an Arts and Entertainment News Documentary Emmy Award.

At age 18, with speed drumming activities behind him, Matt began performing with a variety of diverse world class bands showcasing jazz, rock, hip hop, pop, funk and blues. In 2008 he was named a runner-up in the Rising Star category of the Drum Magazine Readers Poll.

Matt is a 2009 graduate of the Atlanta Institute of Music, and from 2009-2011 resided in Europe, where he began production of nu jazz recordings, and performed with a diverse lineup of artists that included jazz pianist Darius Brubeck and Linkin Park singer Mike Shinoda.

In 2011, he signed on as house drummer with Euro blues headliner A. G. Weinberger on the weekly television show Acadeaua. In 2011 Matt relocated to Nashville, TN, where he currently works as a respected touring drummer and session man.

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering if anybody knows of any renowned drum instructors who are based in the UK and still operate today? I know I hear things about teachers such as Erskine and Soph teaching in Colleges in the US, but I've never heard such stories of great players/teachers teaching in the UK? And if so, who they are?
I know that players/teachers of that calibre are obviously hard to come by, but I'm interested to know of the better teachers on this side of the pond.

Not a complaint, as much as a query :)

Thanks :)

Hi I'm looking for a teacher to spark my playing back into life.

My name is Luke Gregg.

Location: Midlands, England (willing to travel somewhat).

Have been playing roughly 8 years, had a teacher for about 6 but he retired. I feel he didn't touch on some subjects very well, such as rudiments, technique. However he was really good at reading concepts and really ingraining certain sub-division feels.

Basically I'm looking for a teacher who can rejuvenate my playing, pick out the bad bits, expand vocab, all that normal stuff. Give me something to work towards each week.

I am in like a progressive rock band at the moment, but as a drummer I want to be as accomplished as possible in multiple areas, not just stick to one.

Hope someone sees this as a good challenge and would like to take me under their wing. Even if you can't do it personally and can recommend a good teacher from a similar kind of area in England then that would be great.
