Evans vs. Aquarian

It's been my personal experience that Aquarian outlasts other brands in terms of durability. I just got off the road with a hard hitting rock band and used the same snare head for every show. Aquarian's Triple Threat.

Have you used the Evans Heavyweight snare batter?

EVANS.
Remo's= not durable, burnout way too easily. and quality control is a bust.
Aquarians= Too one dimensional, once they detune they are out or flat.

I use evans, mostly because they sound great, but other than that, they are durable, last forever. And they sound amazing when a kit is mic'd.

Heads also are a preference, it's like saying zildjian vs sabian? what do you want? what do you need from your drums bright and bouncy? clear G2's if you want low and punchy coated G2's with a coated reso7. With the clear G2's I would use clear G1's for a reso head.

On the advice of a better drummer than myself, I tried Aquarian Clear Performance 2 over Aquarian Clear, on a floor tom; instant attraction. On a 12" I had Response 2 over Evans G1, because that's what I could find. It was good too, but I recently swapped out the Response 2 for a Perf. 2 on the 12", it might be the consistency between the two toms, but I like it better.

I use a variety of the 3 major brands on all of my 3 kits. Depends on the shell composition. Being a "fan" limits your sonic capabilities. Want a nice sound on a thin shell maple kit? Try Aquarian coated Response 2's over Remo clear ambassadors. Tama birch/bubinga? Try Evans clear G2 over clear G1's with a Remo PS3 and Aquarian regulator on the bass drum. Stage Custom Yamaha? Evans clear G2's over Aquarian Hi Frequency resos, Evans Emad on the bass batter with stock crummy reso (4" port). My point is. There are really good heads out there. Find the ones that get you YOUR sound.
