Efficient Midi Programming

I prefer to record the kit for recording if at all possible but sometimes its not. When I need to program for Slate Drums its usually click and insert and then cut and paste when a rhythm repeats. I need to find more efficient methods. Do the midi controllers work faster? I thought about keeping a library of common rhythms. Slate has a collections of things to choose from but go through them all takes a tome of time too.

What do you use to program drums when you need to?

I'll use a full ekit or a controller depends where I am and what the end-game is. If using a kit I can record in the module/overlay/quantise whatever then drop the MIDI onto a computer at leisure.

When I do my midi programming I'm probably 80-90% mouse clicks. I have and occasionally use a controller but I'm very methodical and mathematical in my programming so I find it more efficient and more precise and overall much quicker for me to just "click it in" instead of using a controller.

EZ Drummer and Superior Drummer have a tap to find function where you can do that to find something related to what you are looking for, that should save you some time when looking for something useful.
