EC2 frosted over Coated Reso 7

A few months ago I contacted Evansspecialist here regarding heads for a church I play at, trying to reduce volume and overtones (yeah a common problem!) He recommended the Frosted EC2 batter with the coated Reso 7 on the bottom. Long story but I recommended that combo to church and someone took it upon themselves to order something different, not happy about it but is what it is. Well one of our other campuses needed new heads and I ordered that combo personally and put them on today.

The kit is a Yamaha Stage Custom 10,12,16.

First thing is these heads tuned up super easy, I was blown away at how easily and quickly they came up to pitch. I was really curious as to how they would sound, it's an interesting combination. I have to say they sound really good. I tuned the reso slightly higher than the batter to get a little pitch bend, you get a quick initial attack and note and then very quick decay with minimal resonance. I wouldn't say the tone is necessarily dry or dead like a hydraulic but short. It has a really warm fundamental note to it and the frosted coating on the EC2 helps reduce the bright attack normally found with clear heads.

If you are looking for a good focused tone with short resonance this is a great combo to go with. They should sound really great coming through a PA with that focused sound. Didn't have a chance to put them on the PA at the campus I was at but I'm confident they will sound incredible after what I heard just playing them.

Hey Konaboy!

I'm so glad to hear that you got to try that combination out and that it's working out well for you. It sounds like the Reso 7 is performing exactly as it should.

Cheers!
