DTX silicone pads. Do they wear out ?

I'm toying with the idea of replacing my acoustic converted snare to a yamaha XP120 snare. It's very exepensive so I'm wondering if there are any maintenance costs.

Will last for ages unless you're beating the flip out or the pad. You can replace "head" itself (I've even seen eBayers selling the "head"). Just ensure your tips are smooth (nylon or wood)

if you don't "release" (ie bounce) your stick after each hit, but "dead stick" (ie smash) your snare notes, you will get a blistering issue, where the thin outer layer separates from the underlying foam
