Drumeo - Great Instructional Web Site For Drum Training

Some of us have long memories of this and won't give Jared or Drumeo the time of day because at that point, he really exposed himself for who he was.
I get where you’re coming from but I think the key phrase is “who he was”. We’re all capable of making wrong choices, especially when we’re young and ambitious? @Jared_Falk straight up admits that it was a mistake, and has since built Drumeo into one of the most respected online resources out there. If @Bernhard has forgiven his youthful transgressions, that’s good enough for me…:)(y)

Yep. And this is the first time Jared has ever apologised for it on here. So that apology is fully accepted and I'll move on.

While I don't actively seek out lessons per se any longer, I will listen to a well crafted interview/lesson on a key concept that I come across.

One of those inevitable content sites is Drumeo that will show up in my feed, if it is interesting, I'll watch the snippet on "the 'gram" but the number of times I have watched a full video is small.

P.S. @Jared_Falk Can you PLEASE stop the Jonathan Moffett segments from popping up in my feed? Seriously, it has haunted my feed for what feels like years........I have had enough leather vest for a while.......can you hijack the algorithm.....to literally anything else.

One-on-one is great as long as you find a good teacher. When I started out, I took lessons from "teachers" who shouldn't have been, and effectively paid to develop bad habits which took years to undo. My experience of being self-taught and watching youtube videos has actually been much better. I haven't done a very deep dive into Drumeo, but they have some great stuff on there. They have a brush lesson with Jason Sutter that's fantastic.

Haha! If the videos are in your feed that's on you. ;-)

Many eons ago, Jared made a video - when he was just starting out, with a company he founded 'Railroad Media'. It was about a specific hand technique and it was soon discovered that this video was a verbatim copy of a video that Johnny Rabb had produced a year or two before.

It was brought up on this forum and there was a thread. Probably beyond searching now. Jared obviously Googles his own name because shortly after it was mentioned here, he signed up for his account. Shortly after that, a whole load of new members mysteriously appeared on the thread trying to defend Jared. All sock puppet accounts, most of which were ignored, banned or deleted.

You'll see that there are 46 posts against Jared's name but none of them show up. At least half of those were made in that thread so I suspect it's disappeared to the great database in the sky.

Man, I've got so much amazing, free content from Drumeo I can easily forgive something like this.

Also, a question for Jared, does the practise kick pedal thingy you just released work with Axis AL-2 longboard double pedals? The beaters are quite far apart.

I subscribe to Drumeo and have gotten a lot out of it. It is a bit of information overload, though they recently added a feature that has a linear path starting from nothing and working up. I've only watched a little of it so far, but it looks well done and would be good for a beginner.

Someone mentioned spending too much time watching videos, but I've actually had the opposite problem. I'll watch a few videos and get loaded up on exercises of things I want to master and spend weeks working them before going back.

Anyway, if you have the money, I'd recommend giving it a shot. I tried another on-line lesson place (a one man show) and was much less impressed. Drumeo is not perfect, but they are trying to make it more than just a pile of videos you have to pick at on your own.
Drumeo is just a bit too slick and polished for my liking.
And I'm not inclined to forget them teaching that doubles on the snare don't involve stick-bounce. Unforgiveable.

Hey Trigger, the QuietKick should work with all pedals, although we have not tested 100% of them. If the beaters are too far apart, it may not work. You're welcome to try it out and return it if you like, everything we offer comes with a 90-day guarantee.

You can watch a video of 66Samus using it on one of his YouTube lessons here. He is using two single pedals though.

Hi,

What are everyone’s thoughts on Drumeo?

I am taking lessons with an in person teacher, but with only 30 minutes a week, I feel like there are other opportunities to learn.

Has anyone done the online classes?

Also, the drumless tracks, are they any good?

Do you feel like it’s worth the price, or are there better options?

I'm sure there will be differing opinions. As @Lunasee said, you may need more homework or find another teacher that will sufficiently challenge you.

On Drumeo: I'm a member and am working through their "Method" to brush up on skills and fill in the cracks, So far (since joining in January), I've done a 30-day intermediate challenge with El Estepario Siberiano. I'm not "into" the metal genre, but the course was very worthwhile and I learned things I didn't know I could do. I practiced a lot to learn the material to the best of my abilities. I also worked through an intro jazz course taught by Julliard's jazz drumset professor, Ullysses Owens. He's the bomb! I use the "Play-alongs" almost every day. You can select to play them drumless and without the click. That is what I do, and it provides a good challenge for the brain to not get dependent on hearing the drum track and click. I am also able to select the level of difficulty and genre for the play-alongs. Drumeo is what the individual makes of it; it can be a great tool...one just has to utilize it. :)

I find Drumeo a good value and it works for where I am in life. Right now, with their summer sale, the year price is discounted to $200/yr. through the end of July. Drumeo has a lot of resources that I've not even explored yet, like personal coaches. I have no personal connection to Drumeo and they are not paying me to say this, lol. As a disclaimer, I started playing 51 years ago and studied percussion in college. So I'm not a novice going into Drumeo trying to figure out basics, just so you know. (y)

PS: They do offer 7-day free trials. You can't go wrong with that, IYKWIM.

I also paid for a year. I’ve used a few items there to supplement what my instructor gives me. I also have explored a few extracurricular activities that are low on my priority list. I take a longer term view when working on those items.

All in all, I happy with what I’ve seen so far.

I found Drumeo good in my first year of learning because I could use the progressive course (They call it the Method).

Unfortunately the main drawcard, scrolling sheet music to thousands of songs were mostly removed in the last week or so due to copyright issues, so that really reduces the attraction.

The Drumeo announcement that I read said that they are working to renew and expand licensing contracts for these songs. While songs may be gone at the moment, Drumeo intends to bring them back after all the legal boxes are checked.
