Double pedal searching

well the Pearl is just an expansion kit.

I'd try to find a nice, used Yamaha Flying dragon, Pearl eliminator, Tama Iron Cobra or DW5000 before buying a new DW4000.

I actually really wanted to get this now (no eBay waiting) and wanted it new. So I've narrowed it down between the DW link above and a DW 7002PT. Anyone have either? I hear DW is good too.

I have the DW 7002PT and I would suggest getting that. Ive had it for about a year and a half and i haven't had any trouble with it. I just replaced the beaters and im extremely satisfied with the feel and power I get from it. Overall its a very solid double pedal and i guarantee you would be happy with it

DW makes good pedals, though if I'm "upgrading" from a broken pedal I'd be more apt to look at something that's a little better. Patience can be a good thing and I've seen plenty of used pedals on ebay that are in near mint condition for incredible prices. So the question is, is waiting for a higher end used pedal on ebay worth it, in my book yes. You'll not feel a need to upgrade again in a year.

Just some things to think about.

If I were you, I would refrain from buying DW unless it's 5000AC or the 9000's.
I owned 7000's for 2 years and after the first year it started crapping out on me, the pedal connection to the base plate was so hard to move that when I detached the pedal from the connector all of my body weight hardly made it go down... and these were only used for a jazz kit that never moved anywhere...

I would go the rout of Ebay / used stuff because if you're just a bit patient and have good timing you could end up with an awesome deal. The first and second link konaboy provided look great.

Okay lol, I forgot I posted this and haven't checked back till now. I ordered the DW7002PT but it won't ship till 3/29 at the earliest so I'm not too happy about that because in the meantime, I can't play. I haven't gone more than two days without playing in my seven months lol

I really like that one. Is it good? All reviews look good, I just don't understand why this is so much more. Can someone explain?

Also the first two konaboy posted looked good especially the DW one. What do you guys think?

Really the first elim you posted and the first two I posted would server you very well. Can't go wrong with any of those three in my book. I can't stress enough you really need to try them out though

This particular item costs more because it's kind of like a special addition. As far as I know there is nothing special about the way it plays. But I could be wrong, I've never played it.

As for you getting the DW7002, I hope that decisions does not haunt you but I'm telling you, the lower end DW's are not very fun to use. Where as the pearl really has it right, even the IC Jr. is better...

Watch out for putting too much strain on the board too, they've been known to snap.

I've had my DW7002 now for over a year with no problems with them breaking down on me. However i do have a few issues with them.

1. The adjustability. For me this is just a personal preference thing but i had rather have a pedal to where you can adjust the beater seperate from the footboard(if that makes sense). As far as i know the 7002 doesn't do that.....or at least mine don't.

2. The footboard length. It's a little short compared to other models and if you have big feet it COULD be a little uncomfortable for you.

Again, this is just MY issues with them from owning them for well over a year now. Not everybody is the same and you may fall in love with them. The're really not bad pedals but there are worse ones out there. With that being said though, if i had to do it over again i would have waited a little longer and went with something else. Not shure if this helps much just thought i would give my 2 cents worth. lol

The price difference in the pearls comes down to a couple things. The regular price for an Eliminator double is about $375 new. The Musiacians Friend one you listed is in Black which has for some reason always been more expensive. Regular eliminators have been on sale for a bit at $300 there:

I'm not sure why this guy is selling it $45 cheaper than that, but his feedback is good and he is an authorized Pearl dealer, so it would have full warranty. I was actually thinking about buying it myself, but I realized I really only needed a single with all the parts I had lying around.

614 drums, I'm not getting the DW. Cancelled last night

Jeremy, yes the feedback is good and the customer service is very nice. I'm holding off a little bit until I get all the money because he says they have multiple in stock.

Okay so it came today. Can't say that I love it because it's a huge change...my old pedal was crap. The beater was very very light and this one is very very heavy. The fast double kicks are hard now but i'll get used to it...

A few questions. My teacher said it took him awhile to get used to the left pedal because his leg was so weak. I don't feel like it's too weak but I can't get a steady pattern going with both legs. Is this a problem or will I get it eventually?

And I can't figure out a way to make my hi-hat pedal and left bass pedal comfortable enough so that I can move my leg easily and step on both of them easily. This is my setup now, am I doing something wrong? I can't figure out a way to get the hi-hat leg out of the way...

Sorry, I had to take a screenshot because the picture file wasn't showing up for some reason. If you need a different angle just tell me and I'll try something else///

try bringing the left kick pedal towards you a bit (so that the bar isn't at that peculiar angle) and then try bringing the hi-hat stand a little forward too. i have my pedals sort of set up like yours, but its not as far back (in comparison to your snare drum). i basically sit on top of the pedals (well a little bit away, but not that much). i'll post a pic if you need. you may want to experiment with how far apart your pedals are too perhaps.

tbh though, just try experimenting a bit with how its placed. my idea of how to place a pedal is just my opinion so :)

lol, i'm so stupid. I finally figured out how to move the hi-hat legs, it's great now, just like before I got the double. So that problem's solved

btw, thanks for the picture, I haven't been able to find many (mostly because I don't really know what words to google lol)

haha. yeah its not something that i really google. also my hi hat stand only has two legs (specifically because if it had three it would get in the way of my slave pedal). i see you're repping tama stands too, good stuff ;p

if you are really interested in double bass technique/setup then i would suggest getting a DVD by a guy called George Kollias. he plays in a death metal band called Nile, so the DVD contains alot of blast beats and such like, but the double bass techniques (and workouts/warmups) are just as important.

it starts off relatively simple and gets harder as it progresses. its good for building up stamina and speed (if you can play something fast then playing it in the mid tempos should be really easy. you'll find that tempos you thought were previously fast actually become slow, and once that happens its really easy to place fills etc). this is mainly due to learning proper technique.

there are also DVDs by people like Flo Mounier, but imo they aren't as good as Georges. his DVD has really good camera angles and he is just generally awesome at explaining. anyway good luck with the double kick, once an addict always an addict ;)

While you may not feel your leg is weak strength wise it probably is rhythm wise. First thing I'd do is sit down with a metronome at a fairly slow tempo and just work on getting an even pattern of 1/8 notes then as that gets consistent gradually build up the speed focusing on even patterns. Once you get solid with that start working on rudiments with your feet. Also I used to sit down and practice just using my left foot on the bass, instead of using my right foot, playing along to a cd just to build up the coordination and feel in that foot
