Different, unique, or just wacky set-ups

I always thought Chris Coleman had a unique set up, with his cymbals tilted away from him.

Same thing with Keith Carlock, with his floor toms tilted away from him.

Unique to be sure, but it must work for each of these great players.

Then, of course, you have Daru Jones who clearly escaped from the Tom Angles thread.

Nightmare = "Hey we want your band to open for Carrie Underwood! The only thing is, you have to use Goodwin's drum set and you can't change anything."

This intrigued me, so I found an interview from 2011:

MD: What’s with the super-high crash?

John: I didn’t want any cymbals but the hi-hats at first. Then I was like, “Okay, I’ll use one,” but I didn’t want it near me because I’d use it too much. So I set it high so I’d have to work to get to it. I wanted it to be significant; I use it as a marker. It’s like a master reset button when I go to the cymbal. Plus, it looks cool.

Always thought that this made zero sense (John Stanier with Battles).

Did Underwood fall on that kit, causing her horrific scar that was in the entertainment news all of 2018?

Along the same lines, how about Col Hatchman from Australian blues rock band Nat Col and the Kings. Take special note of the HIGH hat.

Here's a clip of him playing that monstrosity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdOTkRllJi8

Isn't there some kind of snobish vibe using a kit no one would ever want (be able) to share ?

Good point. I play a lot of jams. I would like to set up my drums with my hi hat at 11 o'clock, and my rack toms shifted around, but other drummers would have a hard time playing it that way.
I would replace your words "Snobish vibe" with "impractical".

.

I knew a drummer who used to set up with just two toms, 10" and 14", mounted to a stand right in front of the snare, with the kick drum angled to the right. It was a weird looking setup but pretty ergonomic and I even used it for a while myself.

Here's a couple you'll appreciate, Jon...

Also this gem...

Drum builder: "What'll it be"
Drummer: "I like really, really long drums, beige carpet, and anonymity"
Drum builder: "Say no more"

Drum builder: "Why so sad"
Drummer: "My drums roll away all the time"
Drum builder: "Wipe those tears away buddy"

... Also, while it's not a weird "drum set", per se, this is definitely a weird set of drums:
