I hope quarantines are in effect in Italy. I found this of interest with the Italy outbreak. "A novel Coronavirus, 2019-nCoV, has been identified as the causal pathogen of an ongoing epidemic, with the first cases reported in Wuhan, China, last December 2019, and has since spread to other countries worldwide, included Europe and very recently Italy. In this short report, phylogenetic reconstruction was used to better understand the transmission dynamics of the virus from its first introduction in China focusing on the more recent evidence of infection in a couple of Chinese tourists arrived in Italy on 23rd January 2020 and labeled as Coronavirus Italian cases. A maximum clade credibility tree has been built using a dataset of 54 genome sequences of 2019-nCoV plus two closely related bat strains (SARS-like CoV) available in GenBank. Bayesian time-scaled phylogenetic analysis was implemented in BEAST 1.10.4. The Bayesian phylogenetic reconstruction showed that 2019-2020 nCoV firstly introduced in Wuhan on 25 November 2019, started epidemic transmission reaching many countries worldwide, including Europe and Italy where the two strains isolated dated back 19 January 2020, the same that the Chinese tourists arrived in Italy. Strains isolated outside China were intermixed with strains isolated in China as evidence of likely imported cases in Rome, Italy, and Europe, as well. In conclusion, this report suggests that further spread of 2019-nCoV epidemic was supported by human mobility and that quarantine of suspected or diagnosed cases is useful to prevent further transmission. Viral genome phylogenetic analysis represents a useful tool for the evaluation of transmission dynamics and preventive action." I hope this means it can be contained but though you can quarantine people it's difficult to limit human mobility (in those with less severe illness unaware of the seriousness of cause).

Absolutely zero offence Art, & my comment wasn't aimed at you, just the general body comparing the two virus types, as they are fundamentally different. The bottom line is, nobody really knows how this virus will morph, not even the experts, but the evidence thus far (especially if I reference NE Italy) doesn't look great.
It was aimed at me, but that’s fine. The WHO is still scandalous and corrupt and has little regard for accuracy and transparency. But, that’s going down the path not permitted on this forum.

It’s okay. We’re still friends...

No, it really wasn't. I was referencing the general body supporting that view (outside of this forum). I never make rebuttal of a wider held view personal, & respectful discourse between friends is a healthy thing :)

Thanks for avoiding the political angle, as this situation likely transcends politics anyhow.

Well, let's look at this situation in a positive light.

If the whole world is isolated at home..... imagine the amount of drum practice we can get done.

My left hand lead pata-flaflas will be absolutely dynamite by the time venues reopen......lookout world!!

I'll be flim-flamin' and biggety-boppin' all over the place.

Of course, this is totally based on how much bloody toilet paper I've got spare.

This forum is all about caring and sharing.

Don't hesitate to send ol' Ben here a couple of rolls of dunny paper

Just send your loving parcel to :

Well here is a good reason why it's spread so fast. An American came home from Asia with symptoms and was told to quarantine herself, and of course the first thing she did was go to some big event with friends. Enough said.

Just reading that GruntersDad -a medical professional,no less, told to quarantine with flu like symptoms . Now that’s insane the risk of flu alone should quarantine but risk of this makes really irresponsible.
I bet it’s already in most states by now. The response I read in Europe is quite different than here that still promotes flu a greater risk. Makes me wary

I never proposed to be a medical professional, and I have only posted here what I have seen online. Please don't lie about me. I just re-read all of my posts and nowhere do I mention the word Flu.

What? I was talking about NH person you mentioned- who was apparently a health professional with flu-like symptoms. That alone shouldn’t gone to an event. Then after diagnosed with covid-19., of all people is my point. I never mentioned you John- sorry you got that impression I don’t appreciate you insinuating I’m a liar. I’d appreciate if you qualify that? Dang I can’t believe you read it like that? Perhaps poorly phrased.

Sorry. I read it wrong. My apologies. Ignore my subsequent PM. Reading the sentence, makes it appear I considered myself a medical pro. Again. Sorry.

not even the experts
This phrase makes me giggle. Everytime something new happens, experts show up. Doesn't matter how new or unknown, there are always experts. I think they come bundled with the virus.

I have a theory. It's the earth trying to rid itself of us. All the weather and illness and natural disasters, that's the Earth's immune system. We are it's virus, it's trying to get rid of us.

The human species has become the biggest pest on the planet.

We are WAY overpopulated.

We have wiped out entire species for greed, power and kill for pleasure or because we can't regulate our emotions effectively.

If the entire human population was to be completely eradicated......the world would continue on, being very thankful.

That'll stop the virus dead in its tracks if it tries to visit me.

Meinl Byzances' oughta do the trick!!
