Collecting gear/ drum closet

So true!

I read somewhere that:
  • One is an object.
  • Two is a pair.
  • Three or more is a collection.
Seems like the "line" between enamored and obsessed with snare drums (or guitars, harmonicas, fiddles, frying pans, espresso machines, bungee cords, or mantle clocks) falls somewhere between 3 and 10, depending on the individual's circumstances.

If it's intended for profit, then it doesn't count since the plan is to sell later. If the intent is to hang on to the item indefinitely, then it is part of the collection.

Some of us fool ourselves into thinking "I'll buy this one and sell one of the other ones", and then never seem to get around to the selling part...

I decided if I ended up with more than 10 snare drums I should seek professional help lol.

I love that clip (and that movie)!

I enjoy the fact that people can geek out over things that interest them. The internet has made it easier to share about our “collections” with like-minded people, as well as seek out people’s opinions about those items as well, allowing us to explore our interests with a more educated and collaborative approach.

That said, I feel as though that clip REALLY personifies (*cough cough*) some people.

i have a bad case of G.A.S. then xD

I just realized how many drums I own when I supplied the local jazz festival here in Berlin with drums last week and I didn't even break a sweat having drums in three different venues at the same time and having snares and concert stands for 5 drummers on one occasion.
I didn't even bring the most expensive stuff.
But I also find that every instrument I own has paid for itself over the years.
My drums get used and I tend to get more gigs because I have them and sound good because of them.
There's always the occasional instrument that doesn't get played that much, but eventually its time comes or it's sold (and I get something else).

But yes, I recognized myself in the video above.
I can geek out about my instrument choices for days.
