the diagrams in Thigpen's book can be misleading, so I'd recommend checking out his DVD, which explains and demonstrates the motions those diagrams are supposed to represent

Thanks for sharing this. I've been through the Thigpen book a couple times. I see the variation on the left hand that you did. It does give a nice full sound as opposed to the "egg" shape.

I checked out your site and really dig the Latin stuff. I'm looking forward to trying some of those. I could use some more Latin patterns in my repertoire.
