Yes, done that before with a "Frankenstein set" (drilling for bass drum lugs, then realizing that the rods weren't long enough for one of the hoops...)
From now on, I'll have that Phil Collins stuck in my head when drilling (Ooooohhhhhh, drill twice / It's just another day for me of unsuccessful tries) - thanks for that...
