As you can probably guess from my username, Thin Lizzy are my favourite band. Sadly being 23 I never got to see Phil, but I've seen the various modern iterations (including my first gig at the Hamersmith Apollo about ten years ago, what a night). Has anybody seen Brian Downey's new project Alive and Dangerous? His way of keeping the legacy of Lizzy alive, and what a tight band. I had always wanted to hear him play Sha La La, and thankfully last year in London he did, the thunderous double bass drums for a solid six minutes is fantastic, as is his feel on slower songs like Still In Love With You. Managed to meet him afterwards too, and what a gentle, humble guy, not a hint of pretentiousness, just a guy who loves playing his music.

..I had always wanted to hear him play Sha La La..

I live in a country where Thin Lizzy is mostly known for The Boys Are Back In Town and because that song has been played that much on the radio etc, i got kinda sick of that song and have never been interested to check out some more Thin Lizzy..

And now i saw this..

Amazing performance and i have the feeling that i have something (or maybe a lot..lol..) to catch up regarding Thin Lizzy..

Many thanks for mentioning this..!

Thin Lizzy is also a favorite of mine. I think I played “Alive and dangerous” til the grooves wore out! Brian Downey is one of the unsung best.
