Got a very good deal on these. Shells are North American Maple. Snare is an older Black Panther limited edition maple/walnut hybrid in the same finish (transparent black), different lugs. 22x18,10x7,12x8,14x12,16x14. Me so happy. :)

Thanks, that's nice of you to say. It's got that maple shell sound too. I like everything about it except the stock bass drum reso doesn't have a mic port in it and I'm scared to death that I'm gonna mess it up if I try to cut one in there. I played them for about 3 hours today and my right knee is sore as hell from trying to control all the pedal rebound that you get with a full reso. I didn't see that coming! How do you cut those holes for your kickports?

I don't know that Greenbrier handles Mapex kits anymore. That may be why I got that blowout price on my Saturns.

Cheers,
Todd

Black Panthers matter.

All class, congrats. I love that panther logo.

I was too that's why I let the dealer cut my Saturn's. But my Renown's come straight from the warehouse. So I got one of those Exacto knives and with the template from the Kickport, cut very carefully after putting medium high tension on the Reso head. Without a Kickport a coffee can would work for a guide hole but something you could stick on would be easier a can might move on ya. I ended buying that fibreskin Reso after missing that sound of the unported, but yea it's a beast to control it gave me something to work on.

Personally I would not port that bad ass Reso head, Get one of those Evan's EMAD reso heads with a port already cut into it.

They are, indeed, made of matter. And quite nice matter too! There's some cheap plastic tool that's great for cutting a reso hole – this, for example.

Don't use a cutting tool. Use a tin can that you've heated up. It's simple and effective, and it melts the edge as it makes the hole ie: no errant tears after from nicks or imperfect cuts. The other thing is cans come in many sizes, so you can get exactly what you want.

Thanks, was just watching a video on youtube with that thing. I have an Aquarian regulator on the saturn kit. I might try that first, to see if I like the sound, before I cut up the stock logo reso.

Yo Sundog, Does that work on white heads too? I'd be concerned that it might discolor the edges.

Just get this.
It's idiot-proof. I've used one for years!
Put a piece of cardboard behind the head and press down firmly. Works like a charm with a smooth cut.

Idiot proof ?? I resemble that remark !! ........ Here's the temporary situation and man does that black head look awful. Talk about Goth !! ugh. Better pedal feel though. It's the same PS3 head, just black and with a hole. Probably use the hole cutter thing in the end as I like the stock head MUCH better.

There are little kits being sold to help you cut a sound hole. Then put a rim around it to hide any imperfections. I did it when I was 16.

Hi Jimi, just want to say that’s one beautiful looking kit. I especially like the lugs and the color, very nice.

Thanks force3005, Appreciate it. I hadn't seen any of these Black Panther kits for less than about $2450. When I saw this one listed at $1799 I couldn't pass it up. Especially the Black Widow version. The color is stunning and having just played a 2010 DW kit last monday, this one can stand right with it as a high end thin shelled maple kit. Does it have the cache or resale value of the DW. I doubt it. But it feels, looks, and sounds great. Try one if you get a chance. It might surprise you!

I was, of course, referring to myself in the idiot role!
I'm not a fan of black reso heads but on your kit it looks good. Although my Club Customs came with a smooth white PS3 reso and I love the look.
