Re: Zildjian, Vic Firth Merger

The information is indeed correct! Although the companies have merged they will each retain their independence and, according to Craigie Zildjian, customers will not notice much difference. In a contracting economy this is a very positive move for the vitality of both companies. Both companies have a similr approach in terms of values and to the artists they endorse. This industry tends to be smaller than most imagine and everyone knows everyone.

I will have some more information in regard to the effect this has on endorsing srtists very soon and I will update this post when I have some concrete information.

Best of luck to these two great companies.

No such thing as an equal merger, well, very rare. So, who bought who, or what? This means that 0.000000000000000000000001c of Vic Firth sticks I buy go to supplying Matt with sticks, just so he can come back pointing them at me in his avatar, lol!

So Zildjian will still make sticks? This merger makes no sense to me if that's the case.

It is my pleasure to announce that as of today, the world's leading cymbal manufacturer, the Avedis Zildjian Company, will merge with Vic Firth, the global market leader in drumsticks, effective immediately. Both of our New England-based, family-owned companies are well respected legacy brands in the music industry with a long tradition of product quality and innovation.

Zildjian is honored to join forces with the Vic Firth Company which has set the standard for drumsticks in the music industry. Similarities in our cultures and business philosophies, coupled with a shared dedication to product and service excellence, provide a strong foundation for the union of our two companies. Both companies will continue to run autonomously. In fact, our customers should notice no difference in the way business is conducted moving forward.

"I have the greatest respect for Zildjian," said Vic Firth, President, Vic Firth Company. "Our businesses share common values, a passion for manufacturing, and a similar approach to how we do business. This union represents a unique opportunity to leverage our respective leadership positions in the drumstick and cymbal categories. I look forward to years of growth and newfound success."

All of us at Zildjian and Vic Firth thank you for your continued support and wish you and your families a very happy holiday.

More information on this exciting merger is available at Zildjian.com.

Sincerely,

Craigie Zildjian

That's good news, yes? Two companies banding together to stay afloat in these tough economic times. It'll be interesting to see if anything changes in the coming year.

The Steve Gadd stick will now be the anchor pair for the new "Pitch Black" line.

Re: Big News

Yes,

I got that same email and was getting ready to post it! Also, you are now able to buy cymbals from Zildjian online as well as DW parts. Must be tough sailing in these economic waters as well as the fact that there is a glut of used gear available. You would never think it, but Zildjian, as well as most other drum manufacturers, is having to compete against themselves on the internet.

If it means Vic Firth's sticks start sucking as bad as Zildjian's I am done with Vic Firth.

Re: Big News

The first merger between the two companies was when John Dechristopher married Kelly Firth.

Re: Big News

Heard this from a friend of mine.

At first I was worried Zildjian was going to start rebranding Vic Firth models, which isn't something I'd be happy about. I'd rather my 7A's read "Vic Firth".

Re: Big News

I think this reinforces my original assertion that Zildjian has been committed to the manufacturing of the best possible drum stick.

So they had to turn to Vic Firth to do it for them?

Its OK dude. Zildjian gives you free sticks to say such things. Now you will get free Vic Firth sticks so you should change your signature to 'I play Vic Firth sticks because I like them.'
