I know this isn't quite in the spirit of the question, but a shiny black reso skin that Jojo uses on his DVD videos is fantastic because you can see the pulse of each beat with the distortion of the skin.

I cant find a pic of it ...but my old band used to do gigs with this band called Reverse from Boston ....and the drummer had this 28" kick drum with a painting of the famous picture of Ali standing over Sonny Liston on the front

it was awesome

there was also a Mack Dog emblem off the hood of a mack truck on the hoop above the painting

good stuff
