Bad Drum Photography

A classic! Asphalt truly is a bearing edge's best friend. :)
What will they come up with next? "You can come tomorrow to pick up the drums, but bring some towels and scuba-gear because I ran out of space and so the drums are currently stored in a swimming pool"??

These look like Recording Customs, but there are some larger badges underneath the main badges on all of the toms. Anyone know what those are?

We used white canvas straps back in the early-mid 1980’s for snares in the drum line. Hurt like hell after an hour or so, but that was what we had at the time. Moms made our uniforms (different from the rest of the marching corps) and we were sharp!
In college, my drumline marched old-school style with straps and some semicircular thing that helped our left thighs support the drum. But they were actual marching snares, not a concert or drum set snare like the one pictured.

Between the messy bedroom, the disheveled drums and—what is that finish, giraffe???—I'm shocked these haven't sold!

And this is just a complete mess—complete with bad lighting. Literally zero attempt to make this kit look desirable, even though it is a Starclassic.

looks like a storage locker find....

and the drumline closet at school in mid season...

Wow, these nearly look too professional. I would see them and think "Alright, you got a photo from the manufacturer, but I want to see the actual cymbal that's for sale". :D

My favorite photos are three shots from the same angle. I get it that some people just sell stuff they found in the attic but why not show the side and bottom of the snare.. I don't need a close-up photo of the Remo logo...
Agreed, or 5 closeup shots of the batter head.

This is as much about laziness than anything else. People who are too lazy to stage decent background/composition should not expect to get much of a response from serious drummers. Too much risk with unknown condition, which is why some sellers like the example sometimes have listings online for years.
Nothing to see here folks, keep on moving…

Crappy pictures are the only way to find good deals these days ;)
I recently found a good deal on a near mint Tama Starclassic snare on Reverb. Here are 3 of the 5 listing photos, not exactly crappy but no thought put into background/backdrop, a leather ottoman for a stand with the evening news in the background.

The other ones I took after stripping down and giving her a really good clean.

IMO the seller’s photos make the drum appear to be much more orange in color than it is. Which is probably why I got it for 30% less than it should have fetched.

That's from the recording sessions that eventually became Toontrack's Death and Darkness library. More specifically "Darkness". Recorded in DK at Tue Madsen's place (Entombed, Dark Tranquillity, Meshuggah ...)

Though this is not technically about the photography skills per se, I truly hate seeing ads where the drums are placed outside. I want to see shiny lacquer and rims in a padded locked room with guards. The other issues with this kit setup is another story ...

It’s pretty easy to spot the ads placed by non-drummers. Besides the fact that two of the toms are upside down, were they asking $30,000 + $800 shipping?

Nothing as attractive as a drum kit thrown on a floor and spelling mistakes. :)French le Bon coin.
I’ve seen several Rama drums listed, although I could swear that they look like Tamas.

Even if you didn't know the first thing about drums, the upside-down "P"s on the Premier badges are dead giveaways that those toms are upside-down. Illiterate perhaps?

And what the hell is going on with those hi hat cymbals?

I call this the 'tv show" set up...the one you see in any tv show where they need a band on a stage setting, but no one is playing
