Back to a one-up!

So after my inaugural first two gigs with the new band, I’ve decided to go back to one rack tom - on a snare stand no less! (Using a snare stand let’s me drop the tom even lower and it sings better floating on that Yamaha soft rubber in the basket).

When I saw myself playing with the band, with two rack toms I’m kinda covered up - and the more I sing the more I’d rather be seen. I will keep the two floor toms though - my 18” is not in the photos as I wait for a new head for it. That Memriloc bass drum mount is great for my cowbell though!

Yeah, I’m trying the “no crash by my hi hat” idea, and I think it really is unnecessary for the rock n roll I’m playing. Plus it leaves a space for my iPad

What would be cool is if there was a way to mount the iPad like a cowbell off my bass drum hoop

I have an iPad mounted using a multi clamp and even then the pad gives a little under the pressure of my hand. Not sure if a rim mount would even hold up, but if you can raise the tube that your Memoriloc is mounted to you can use something like this…

I like the the crash, ride same side thing. It certainly opens up the middle and can be very functional if you spend a lot of time on your ride.

I'm a big fan of one up one down also (particularly now) though I do need/want at least two different crash sounds apart from the ride. I know that some rides are supposed to be crashable (the K Sweet ride included) but I have never found that to be the case. Rides sound gong-y to me when crashed, even the most crashable of them.

Could be because I only really like thin cymbals. Never heard a ride effectively imitate a thin cymbal.
