Are Signature Sticks for Hobbyists?

I use Vic Firth STLs so that when I grow up I’ll play just like Thomas Lang… :D (y)

Yeah...let me know how well that works out for you. :ROFLMAO:
I have a few pairs of those for my pad work & love them. But I still suck when I try to use them on the kit.

I was given a pair of signature sticks by my teacher, Ron Hurst -Steppenwolf. They were the sticks he used on the Steppenwolf 50th anniversary concert at the Ryman Auditorium in 2017. I don't use them. I mounted them on my wall.

(Although, saying that as someone who’s had their favourite VF 1A sticks recently discontinued 😭)

Wait, Vic discontinued the 1A? I've been trying to get a pair to try because they are about the only one that still makes that model. I guess that explains why they've been hard to get...

Apparently so, such a shame. Been using that model for decades I think.

Vater still makes 1A’s thankfully. London Drumstick Company also, so there are options.

I've used Vic Firth Steve Jordan sticks and Zildjian Steve Gadd sticks because they felt good and had their own designs.

I don’t think the 1A has been discontinued. Firth are still trying to fulfill tons of back orders because of production slowdowns, so they’ve designated a lot of slower selling models as "out of stock", but they plan on starting to make everything again eventually. Sometimes when Firth designate something as "out of stock", some retailers have interpreted that as "discontinued" but that isn’t the case. It may take 6 months to a year, but I’ll bet the 1A will be back in production eventually.

I got some Mike Portnoy sig sticks because they were black and on sale. They have this coating on them that makes them kinda like wide receiver gloves so when I try to twirl my sticks, I throw them across the room less often. :)

The Zildjian Vinnie stick was almost perfect! Except..they are a slight to thick and I want the shoulder maybe lengthened by a quarter inch then it's perfection.

I use signature sticks most of the time, but not necessarily the ones from my favorite drummers. Some signature sticks seems just like a cash grab. But Questlove's, Peter Erskine, Carter McClean, Gavin Harrison and some more seems to bring something different to the market, those doesn't feel like cash grabs to me.
