Anyone Else Find Cheap, Older Pedals Sometimes Better?

I agree with everyone in this thread, it seems. Lighter pedals generally feel better, and that's probably why older pedals feel better to the OP.

I played a DW 9000 for years but the action always felt so heavy. That's when I got a cheap Tama Speed Cobra 310 single pedal, and it's now my go-to. It feels better than the 9000, and it only cost $100. It feels great!

It definitely feels like an expensive pedal. I've also played the old and new Iron Cobra pedals, and they feel just as good. (even the cheaper ones)

Maybe I should try out some Yamaha pedals to see what the fuss is about. But I've been so content with my Tamas that I haven't felt the urge to seek out anything else.

I like Yamaha direct drive.

I've got a DW9000, and yes, it feels heavier and I can't play it as fast as the DD's,
but it's very smooth and very powerful.

Just picked up this Pearl. I really like that footboard and cam. I think they are same as my P-120. And people practically give these things away!

I love my new Yamaha strap drive 8500. It’s about $250 retail but used much cheaper. I have an 80’s Premier-branded Yamaha converted to a strap drive. Updated the springs and it’s a great pedal. Between the strap and the Tama springs the feel is great.

I stopped using my DW 5000’s and use either of these.
