Another RVC Vid

Hope I’m not wearing out my welcome in this sub-forum. This clip is from part of an original of ours. It’s so slow and sparsely arranged it’s almost painful.:eek: This video captured the sound of the large venue well, methinks.

My new 602 22” Thin Flat Ride got in the music for the first time tonight and she didn’t disappoint. There are a coupla few hits on it in the beginning of the vid for an idea of what it sounds like. Of note to me is the cross stick sound I’m getting from the bamboo snare drum. Thick and rich!

Thanks for checking it out and I hope you dig! 🙏(y)

Ooooo... I love your cross-stick! I try to find that perfect spot for the butt of the stick on the snare-head and most times I land on it - but sometimes, in a rush, I end up hunting and lose that nice, woody sound for a bit (steel snare). I've thought about marking the head with a sharpie or some-such, but then I've have to mark the hoop too... The thought of it seems tantamount to cheating, so sometimes I suffer. ;) Sounds like you've nailed it!!

If there's a cross between early Grand Funk and Pink Floyd I just heard it. The intro grabbed me right away and I was hooked. Another thing that hit me was seeing you two on America's got talent.

Thanks, @Smoke! I really appreciate the kind words. 🙏 That venue was cross-stick friendly, for sure. Just the right amount of natural ‘verb to wet the sound up proper. That bamboo snare drum also helps me out a great deal. I always remembered the great cross-stick sound of the Yamaha bamboo drum I owned long ago, and when I recently took possession of this DW version I could tell right away that it shares the same quality. Gotta be a product of the shell material, at least in part, methinks.

Wow, @Bozozoid, I’ll take that comparison ALL DAY LONG! Thank you very much! 🙏 It’s funny you mention AGT… my duo partner’s older brother did The Voice a few years ago and made it all the way to runner up. We occasionally do gigs with him as well when he needs a full band. Very talented family. Their mom sings the national anthem at L.A. Lakers games several times each basketball season and dad is an accomplished gospel musician as well.

Thank you everyone for all the love! ❤️ It’s always a bit unnerving posting my playing on a public forum, especially since I don’t do any “drummy” stuff that would impress a forum full of drummers! LOL. The more I do it, the more I get over myself and my own insecurities, so thank y’all for helping me out. (y)

RVC..listen to me..you not doing any drummy stuff is thee impressive thing. It's your Pick Withers thing ya got goin on. When I listen to you I'm thinking he'll ruin it with drummy stuff sooner or later. You never do. It's your restraint that kills me. It's truly inspiring. If I didn't think so I wouldn't say so. You do what real drummers do..not Bozozoid trying to be Terry Bozzio every 7 seconds. Keep on Keep in on. 😃

Thanks, @Bozozoid! I appreciate your fine compliments about my playing! Although I can appreciate all approaches to playing music, my personal preference has always been a super simple approach, not only with drums but with all instruments.

My approach and end goal is to play in a way that I would want to listen to. Sometimes what I would want to listen to and what I’m physically feeling in the moment don’t agree. Those are the “tempting” moments where it would be easy to let the mind wander and play a “I’m bored” fill. I fight through at least a few of those temptation episodes every song I play! 🤣

Funny, I was thinking GF's " Mean Mistreater" meets Leon Russell!

Very nice blues/R&B!
