An Ode to DXP pedals

A while ago I got a used DXP kit for $120 AUD, specifically to keep in my dirty old farm shed and muck about with when I was up there. I really liked the bass drum pedal it came with. Compared with my top o' the range Yamaha pedal, it wasn't bad.

So a year later and I decided to try out double kick pedals for the first time. Not wanting to spend a lot of cash, I bought the DXP double for about $160 AUD.

I'll say two things: double kick is a fun excursion for my playing, and the pedals I got aren't bad at all. I can't get the rebound on the slave pedal to be very close to the right side pedal, but I figure that's just more training for my left foot.

So yeah, fun times.

If it works….seems a good fit for a farm kit. Rarely do we see a thread opened about something not being all that bad!

I had a PDP steel piccolo snare for several years. It was a throw in with my kit and retailed for $40 US new. The hoops would bend under tuning and the shell was effectively trash. To my surprise, if you didn’t try and get crazy with tuning, it actually sounded well above its cost and I used it as a side snare for the duration I had it.

Did I mention that it came with what has become my number 1 drum key? It has huge wings on it making it easy to turn, and sits in a convenient holder on the main pedal so it won't get lost (an obvious, yet often overlooked little innovation).

Life is good.

I'll say this for every double pedal... Trick driveshaft. It's expensive, but totally worth it

This.
I have one for my DW5000 and it was a game changer. Not enough O's in smooooth to describe it.

On the Trick topic: beware of knockoffs!! I mistakenly bought a driveshaft branded "Tricky." There's some truth in advertising right there, boy. Seriously, though, I do have the Trick shaft and yes, definitely worth it. Superior feel and performance for the slave pedal.
