Its cool not to dig. In fact I think, as an artist, its important sometimes to dowright hate some stuff. It gets tiring, this polical correctness thing. I think we should'nt be ashamed to absolutely hate some music.

There's music I hate as well.

That was a great mature response. Thanks. I will have to make sure I do the same next time someone says they do not like something I like. I guess it is also in how you say you don't like something that will evoke a positive or negative response.

+1 definitely on the Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussein group. They make beautiful music together. Edgar Meyer is such a heavy musician, his improvisations, compositions and ensemble playing are very deep and reflect a lifetime of study and commitment. All of those guys blow my hair back.

One thing about the Mehldau group. Jeff Ballard is amazing, I love his work with BM trio, Fly, Guillermo Klein and Rosenwinkel, obviously, but I think Jorge Rossy deserves a mention as the original drummer in that group. He is on the Art of the Trio recordings, five volumes that are worth exploring as it charts the evolution of probably the most important piano trio to emerge after the Standards trio.

Jorge left the group to live in his native Spain and pursue piano and composition, but his contributions to the Mehldau trio on drums shouldn't be underestimated.

Leviathan started a thread for amazing duos. Pretty cool music in there as well.

I don't think there's any music I hate, that's a pretty strong word, I can even stomach a bit of Opera, although I must say that the singing grates on some of it. The music, though is wonderful; I'm a HUGE fan of Classic music, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Beethoven, Vivaldi, any many others. I'm a rock drummer but I always listen to Classical stations/CD's in my car, at home, in my office. Just something about these Great Masters that I never tire of. To me ALL genres of music can be found in Classical. From the poignant to the exhilarating.

Sorry to 'sway the thread' now back to 'Amazing Trios', some great music being posted on here!

Too Many Songs

I have not. Do I need to get it?
It's a two DVD set of the concerts (or concert series) that were recorded to become the 'Standards Live' album. So you get video performances of the tracks on that album plus at least another hours worth of live performance. So I'd say get it if you are into the trio and liked the period around 'Standards Live'.

I only came across it by accident (was looking for something else by Jack DeJohnette) but I'm glad I got it.

Billy Ward Trio.

I guess I always new Billy was really good from the clips I have seen him at festivals. After getting his video "Voices In My Head" he is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite musicians.

Solo at 4:35. I love the way he laughs when he plays.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx7woT1iQ2s
