The band Fanny is having a resurgence due to a recent bio-doc. They popped up on my feed last week and I'm really digging the groove Alice lays down on several songs. This one has a nice Blue Cheer kinda vibe.

Well?..so my gal and I are walking down the street..step into a pub and hear this band..id say..you wanna pay the cover?. We listen for a minute and I say let's check it out.

I wasn't aware of a new movie but I've been a fan of the band for a long time.
It's called Fanny: Right to Rock. It looks like it's fie rent on most streaming services including YT. I haven't been able to watch it yet.

Here's the trailer:

Somewhere I read she played Camcos. That's what it looks like in the vid. So there's that for extra cool points.

oh man...I found them years ago doing the Youtube rabbit hole thing. Great sound. Great drive. They were what the Runaways should have been....and I love the Runaways....

Fanny was so far ahead of their time, and they came along at a point where female bands were little more than a novelty. There were actually quite a few female bands that sprang up in the wake of The Beatles in the mid to late '60s, like The Pleasure Seekers in Detroit, that included the Quatro sisters, but very few of them went any farther than their local scenes. There are compilation CDs out there of Texas female bands, for instance. I don't have any of them in my collection, but have heard some of the tunes. Most of them sounded pretty amateurish, but those girls in Fanny were a big step above most of them in terms of talent and ability. I'm glad they're finally getting recognition.

When the video for Young and Dumb popped up on my feed I only watched it because I thought they were someone else. This confusion caused me to do some research. While researching I kept rewatching that video.

It was mesmerizing.

Each time I'd focus on a different member and I just kept thinking, "damn they're good." Not for a girl band or as a novelty but just plain good.

BobC, I fully agree. There isn't anything pre-fab or bandwagonish about them at all. And Alice...

No cutesy demure drumming from her. She just lays it down like it's hot.
