Alesis DM5 module compatible for TD6 vDrum pads?

2 hit wonder

I've got a TS6 vDrum kit to try for lighter weight gigging and want a backup module in case of failure at a gig.

I own the Alesis DM5 module. Is it compatible with vDrum pads? Never used it.

I'm afraid to. Over voltage concern? But I dont know how they function.
I think you’re ok to try it. The only physical difference is if the pads are wired opposite which means they won’t work. But I doubt you’ll fry anything. The DM5 was released as a sound module and I don’t recall Alesis saying they only worked with their own pads and a lot of people were making homemade piezo triggers for it to tape to their drums. I say turn down the volumes, plug in a pad and see if the trigger light lights up.

I could be wrong but I don't think the DM5 has dual trigger inputs. If not, you won't be able to get separate head and rim sounds when using two-zone trigger pads.

Bo, I gotta make sure the house doesn't explode. :)
Maybe a patch cable adapter could be used to swap the trigger path for the Alesis.

Seems I remember that, so you have to use a diff patch cord with tip and ring separated, I guess. But this would be a backup module if the TD6 fails onsite at a gig...until I buy another Roland one.

No , I have tried Roland pads with the DM5 and with the Alexis I/O and they worked just fine. The only difference is with some Roland modules the pads might need to have a 100 ohm resistor to prevent them from being too hot ( sounding too loud even at low volumes) but no problems otherwise. Same for diy pads.

Also as Bo said, some pads are wired opposite so they won‘t work unless you swap the cables.

Yes - as mono/single zone for pads. But you'll need a hat controller.

Try it - you can't break it! Pad technology hasn't really changed for decades - just 50 cent piezos in shells!

Cool.
It's the module I'm worried most about. A pad strike signal voltage spike clipping an opamp or similar in the DM5.
