A vibe tom

I've been tuning my snare 14x6.5 and tom 12x10 about a half step apart Bb and A respectively, because I believe these are the optimum turnings for these shells. However I've noticed this leads to beats, of the wow wow variety, between the drums, I can even play along to it like a metronome. Though it kind of makes me wonder. Would this be considered jam killer by other musicians? Kind of like an out of sync delay pedal.

My guess is an out of sync delay type sound wouldn't sound good.

You don't have to play the snare and tom at the same time.

I wasn't planning on playing them at the same time, but the tom has some resonance. The effect is most noticeable when I through off the strainers.

Hit the batter head and change the tension of the bottom head of the tom while it's mounted and you will find the spot that makes the waver go away.
