A line in the sand.

Thanks again for the support all, it means a lot.

To be clear, medics talked to me in terms of years, not months. I’m 63 this year, & very unlikely to make 70.

I do now have increased risk factors that can curtail the fun early. That means thinking hard about crowded bars & stuff. It also means diminishing physical capacity, & I’m already feeling that.
Sending big hugs Andy, this must be quite a shock. You're a good egg and the world is a better place with you in it, I hope that you'll get all the help possible to keep on rockin' in whatever way you choose for as long as possible. Let us know if there's any way we can support you. Grateful to have you with us :)

Just read your post Andy and am thinking of you. Your strength in dealing with the stuff thrown your way is extraordinary, as others have amply said in words better than mine you are an exemplar in so many ways.

From our conversations and meeting you I know you're an exceptional guy and I'd bet you make it for longer than the medic's prognosis. Looking forward to your journey with original music - go for it Andy.

Keep well.

Richard

Hi mate, you’re 63 and have more than earned the right to do you, and express yourself in a way that makes you happy! Thank you for all you do on here, it’s truly appreciated. I look forward to seeing/hearing some more Guru smashing goodness from you. Sending love and positive thoughts to you and yours…keep smashing it mate! (y) ❤️

Thank you all again.

I'd bet you make it for longer than the medic's prognosis.
Well, I beat the prognosis 3 x over. No reason why I can’t do it again. Big mountain to climb though.

Let us know if there's any way we can support you.
I’m far too independent for my own good, & certainly not bumming out my family & friends with this crap - they have their life too.

Understanding of friends & contacts is important however, & I thank all for that - it helps a lot.

Oh man! Well, I can't wait to hear this original project
That’s going to take a while. I can’t really start until I get my drum room back from temporarily housing my son + partner & family.

Andy, you have slapped around health issues that take most people out...you are inspiring on, off and behind the kit.

YOU DA MAN!

One day at a time, mate. That's the only advice I have. Thinking of you.

Well Andy...youve been to diagnostic hell and back. The line in an Elton tune comes to mind..im sure you've heard it....Im still standing. I've had highschool friends that were taken instantly. Your ride has been rough and in my minds eye I can see you going through it all. Your outlook is amazing. Thankfully I can lift you up in prayer with the others but something tells me the Lord has you in the palm of his hand already. Praise God you are still among us..carry on soldier.

, & no, you can’t have my Guru’s :ROFLMAO:
Damnit!

Seriously my friend, you are an inspriation to me personally when it comes to drumming and advice. You know from all of the questions and my search for your opinions i send to you. . From our "conversations", i refer to you to my band members as my "friend in the UK". from back in the early days of this forum, your personality came through and i felt a connection, similar to my biggest drum influence my brother in law. You always maintained your dignity here and it kept a lot of us in check. We still nedd to have a pint one day...

Sorry to hear Andy and love your outlook. Making lemonade when life deals you lemons. That's what we've seen you do time and again. I wouldn't believe what the docs say either. They always deliver bad news when they can't sell you meds and even more so when they can.

For all, there's a starting point and end an ending point. Neither matter much, but the in between that defines us. You've certainly made some positive impacts to this forum, drumming world and far beyond (non-drum related).

Thanks for being you and looking forward to the upcoming success stories and the original project.

I wish you the best. I'm familiar with emphysema. My mother had it after over fifty years of smoking. It didn't kill her, but it hastened her demise. A guitarist I used to play with now has it also. He sounds hoarse all the time.

Keep the positive attitude. Many times, people who have been told they have only so much time left, have beaten the odds. I hope that happens for you.

Hey Andy, sorry about the health news. That's the problem with being an old fart, eh? Get well soon. Remember that being chilled out and enjoying one's passion is a health tonic. Look at Keef. Given all the better-behaved celebrities that fell before him, the man has no right to still be alive :D I expect that all that jumping around on stage helped too.

Transitioning to an originals band sounds ideal for you. At least your gig workload will be less ;) Ideally, we get the chance to play the music that really speaks to our hearts while we can. So many of us paid our dues as a live jukebox at bars and clubs for most of our musical lives. For some, there comes a time when we have to ask ...

Thank you all again for your supportive thoughts.

We still need to have a pint one day...
Agreed. I have been lucky enough to meet many forum members, & I hope to meet more if the opportunity arises.

Transitioning to an originals band sounds ideal for you.
I envision more a collaboration of a variety of players rather than a band setup, but time will tell.
