A & F drums!!!

I' really liking some of what the offer. Different look and sound. Some of them are a little pricey, but I see getting one in the near future.
Any one else liking them?

I love the aesthetics of A&F drums. But the sound is not my cup of tea. They have a raw sound, lots of overtones, very little attack. "Lo-Fi" if you will.

I would love to have one though. They have an antique or heirloom vibe to them that's irresistable.

I almost feel like you'd need a whole kit. The look of one of those snares behind a modern kit would bother me.

I thought about that too. All my drums are modern with hi gloss finishes, but they sound is awesome. There's just some thing about them.

A&F had a booth set up next to the INDe Drums booth at the last Chicago Vintage Drums show. I got to play a number of their snare drums and kits and came away unimpressed. They did not sound pleasing to my ear and I am not a fan of the look of their products. I far preferred the INDe drums that were on display from both a sound and look point of view. I was not the only person in my group that felt the same.

I remember them getting kicked out of NAMM for being too load. They made a big deal and promoted it like crazy, as if it was a great thing. I’ve seen companies do this when they have nothing. Take away the fake vintage look and you’re left with nothing. JMHO of course. To each his own.
I remember Cerwin Vega making a big deal out of making sure they got kicked out of every venue back in the day. They 100% had done of the loudest speakers, but that was it. I guess some listen to their stuff at 11 all day long, but for some of us, clarity and body trumps volume. Same with drums....

Buddy of mine has one. Really nice. Sounds great. Glad I've been able to play one and hear one. Probably not the snare for me ..... but that's OK.

? I wonder if they got kicked out on purpose for the publicity. It's not like they'd get kicked out after the first complaint. They'd have to ignore the warnings repeatedly.

Sounds like back-handed marketing to me, haha.
That’s what the Cerwin Vega rep told me. “If I don’t get kicked out, I’m not doing my job.” I can only imagine it was the same with them. Kinda the any publicity is good publicity thing.

Not my cup of tea. Very swampy sounding and decidedly NOT versatile. To my ears, they sound cheap, which is not what I want from a very expensive drum.

I like their look, but I'll just leave this here...

I saw this vid last week and for the best part of £3k the build quality is disgraceful, whoever is letting these out of the workshop without quality control and charges those prices should be ashamed. Hipster crap, the drum totally chokes out past a low-mid tuning and that ain't a budget snare tuning range never mind boutique!

A second hand bog standard Pearl sensitone is a far superior drum to give an example.

If you had a £3k budget soley for a snare and you knew the difference between your arse and elbow, you'd have several snares all of which would be snare porn.

If somebody gave me one of those snares ('cause I'd never pay that much for a snare drum - nope), I'd drive myself crazy with polishing wheels and lacquer coating. I've just never understood the look. If I pay that much, I want SHINE!!!!!! (In fact, even it was free, it'd have to shine!)

I hear you, but I think part of the appeal is that you don’t have to worry about fingerprints, etc. nearly as much.
