I used to play in a band in which the singer kept a couple tambourines for audience members. We had one regular fan, a great supporter and super sweet person, who had noooooo sense of time. When she'd play tambourine, everyone had to do their best to tune her out or the tempo would be wrecked. LolBeing a miserable old , I personally HATE audiences clapping along, because in my experience, very few people have the natural rhythm to actually clap along in the right place.
Especially when they've had a beer or two.
Far better to let them DANCE along to your music. Although this will also be completely unconnected to the timing of the tune you're playing,
at least it's quiet....

Funny, it actually works perfectly in that song. Probably the tempo.I remember watching something about the recording of Elton John's Bennie and The Jets, where they added the live effects in the studio, the producers added a little audience clapping on 1 and 3 as well for added realism.
