Ludwig snare drums: Imperial lug or Tube Lug - Any difference?

Thanks, Winston. Exactly what I needed to know. That makes the choice easy I’m getting the tube lug version. I already have a hammered supra here at the house, with imperial lugs…so I am set if I want to experiment.

Ludwig snare drums: Imperial lug or Tube Lug - Any difference?

I am looking to buy a hammered black beauty 14x6.5 and debating imperial vs tube lug. If I buy the tube lug version (LB417KT)….can I purchase imperial lugs later and swap the tube lugs? Do the mounting holes line up? Thx

    Sonor website...is it just me?

That sux about the website….but If I’m dropping that kind of coin, personally, I would want to talk with a very knowledgable human being about the purchase. A reputable dealer. IE like DCP, Cymbalfusion, Memphisdrum. Have you tried calling? OR….utilize our resources right here on DW. Send out a...

Metal vs Wood - these Snares Sound the Same - Video by Sounds Like A Drum

I believe weather could definitely affect it. The thing to watch IMO is the “density altitude”. I know in the combustion engine world, you will maximize compression on a cylinder when the density altitude is low (like negative feet). Density altitude is calculated with your actual elevation, air...

Metal vs Wood - these Snares Sound the Same - Video by Sounds Like A Drum

And to be fair, that’s a fairly radical comparison as far as a thickness difference. Vast majority of wood shells will be much closer I would think.

Metal vs Wood - these Snares Sound the Same - Video by Sounds Like A Drum

It’s not just shell material….but shell thickness IMO. My 6.0mm RN2 maple renowns do not sound like my 10.4mm beechwood phonics. I don’t care if they have the same heads, same fundamental tuning or not. They sound quite different to my ear. And every other drumming buddy I’ve had over to my...

Is this good for the price?

Heres a decent Ludwig kit brand new for less. Nothing fancy….poplar shell, made overseas, basic zildjians….but not a bad starter at all. They use to be $899 and with a throne! But as we all know….2024 pricing is not 2019 pricing lol...

14x14 floor tom vs 14x12 hanging floor tom

Ya I’ve heard good things about those feet. I actually made some DIY isos I had with some water line insulation and a firmer, tighter cell, cylindrical piece of foam I had in the garage. These work magnificent! Dare I say too good. But….it does put the user back in control, and you can add...

14x14 floor tom vs 14x12 hanging floor tom

That situation has poor vibes all about it….there will be more fish in the sea. I’m sure another one will pop up.

14x14 floor tom vs 14x12 hanging floor tom

I don’t believe this was a real pro job LOL….but good grief, did it kill the sustain IMO. Maybe some iso type feet would help bring back some “ring”

What are you listening to right now?

That Greg Bissonette … he could play those drums!

    whats your fav drum head

I run remo on everything but the 16 floor. Evans will not fit the racks they’re too large, so I run remos top n bottom. The 16x16 however….i run a pinstripe batter and an evans ebony hydraulic on the reso side. Good gods of thunder, does it sound awesome.

    The Fascination with 4pc

I keep it varied….to keep it interesting foremost….but also different songs I might experiment with that particular week. It’s not too difficult or time consuming to swap it up. So, some stretches 1 up 1 down….others 1 up 2 down….or 2 up 2 down.

14x14 floor tom vs 14x12 hanging floor tom

I think the stage custom floor today is actually a 14x13…..not 14x14. Or at least that’s all i noticed. So, i wouldnt be surprised if an older model squared off 14x14 might very well be bringing a premium today. I am just not sure how much. So maybe 250 is steep…but not out of the question.

Need a good e kit around 500 bucks.

I have a Roland 1DMK about that price range….and I think it’s compact and plenty useful for quiet practice. The way pricing has gone the last 3 years, you might have to look used….but it has never let me down. I upgraded to a TD27KV2…but I still have the 1DMK. The only thing you might want to...

    A really REALLY stupid idea

I’m sure it will “work”….just have my doubts it would improve the sound. The issue I see is the batter side is typically run at considerably lower tension than the reso side. Really, some of the lowest tension anywhere on the kit. I think a hole on the batter side might very well kill the tone...
