Does this sound like a real drumkit or a drum machine?

Okay well thanks for the input guys, I genuinely didn't have a clue for a number of years - makes me respect the band a bit more to know they have a real drummer.

Does this sound like a real drumkit or a drum machine?

Not "defensive", just want to be sure, that's all. My reply got you to open up and give reasoning for your decision, so I feel there was no harm done. Not to go off topic on my own post but there is no subtleties I can hear in that second attached recording, sounds like a loop with someone...

Does this sound like a real drumkit or a drum machine?

Okay, that seems to be the general consensus so far, I was thrown off by the repetitive drumming and repetitive fills (there's like 2 different fills throughout the whole recording which are repeated, I thought they might have been programmed?), guess I just didn't have a clue.

Does this sound like a real drumkit or a drum machine?

Hmm, well I do appreciate the input, however as a counterpoint, I'll attach a different song from the same cassette which does use a drum machine (i'm pretty sure), and that sounds quite similar to this, so to say it sounds nothing like an 80s drum machine is not true, just because there is no...

Songs that start with drums only

Not a studio recording, so maybe doesn't count, but this has lived rent free in my head since I heard it, "Vesyelye Rebyata" band, playing one of their og songs "If You Love Me", unfortunately an incomplete recording, but some amazing drumming.

Does this sound like a real drumkit or a drum machine?

Hey guys, A song from my collection, this was a band from the Bahamas, from the 80s. The audio is from a "compilation" cassette, so there isn't more songs by the band I can listen to, as that might have helped find a conclusive answer. I tried to restore the sound quality a bit, only to then...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

That is a good observation, I did not look into it with this much depth when I first picked out the pictures for this thread, truly thought it was all one kit!

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

I personally can't tell you about that specific event, but I can say that, starting in the 80s, the USSR really began opening up to "rock", and even "american" sounds, being played. By the late 80s many of the restrictions were removed, both on the record label, and in live performances. Another...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

Thanks again to everyone for their continued discussion of this, I had not predicted that the kit itself would be all that interesting when making this thread, seeing geometric analysis is unexpected, to say the least. I have uploaded a few of the band's edgiest and best tracks, all are from...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

To say a word about soviet/russian ensembles of the early 70s (when things were really going well), yes the bands that actually recorded on the state owned record label, and who toured, such groups were under a great scrutiny, and pressure was on them to ensure that a great number of...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

Thank you so much to everyone for their replies. This has helped a lot, seems like 12", 16", and 20" are the most accurate dimensions here, with probably a 14" snare. Also, big thanks to "Swissward" (wow, what a name), for correctly identifying manufacturer, that is very skilful work. Just take...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

I speak russian, so all is ok in that regard :) Actually there are some groups dedicated to drum manufacturing from 70s 80s, but I think they only have superficial knowledge, mainly just sharing videos and pics. It's a shame that there are no high quality pictures where the logo can be made out...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

Thank you for the approximations, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for! I guess I didn't quite word my title all too well. I also appreciate the contextual info, perhaps I could continue this search on some russian forums, if any exist relating to this kind of thing, I didn't...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

Most of your assumptions are correct, which is impressive. Yeah, the "high-class" bands used a lot of "export" equipment, for example until about 1975 i dont think USSR was manufacturing anything in terms of fuzz and wah pedals, and not much delay effects either, yet this can be heard a lot in...

Can anyone ID this kit, or just eyeball the diameter of the bass drum?

I am including some pictures (all of the exact same kit, to my knowledge!), that was the kit used by a soviet pop/rock group in the early 70s. The make of the kit is not so important, but just wondering if anyone can give a rough guess as to the diameters of the bass drum, floor tom, snare, etc...
