    Setting up a tom rack

After thinking about this, I think I want to do a 2up 2down setup. This will be tricky though because I can either get something like a 10x10 rack tom and convert my 12x13 to a floor tom, or I could buy an additional 14x14 floor tom. What would you do in that situation?

    Metal drummers: hi-hat spacing question

After listening a little more, I'm thinking these guys leave their hats barely open, or let's say half closed. There's that sustain on it, but not the kind that's wild and trashy like a fully open one. Just a nice ssssssssss kind of thing. I'll experiment and see how far open I need it to get...

    Metal drummers: hi-hat spacing question

As a new drummer I'm trying to figure out how to set up my hi-hats. From the metal albums I've listened to, I'm going to guess that a lot of the faster double bass type drummers leave barely any space between, or even disengage the clutch altogether on the hi-hat. I'm hearing a sustained sizzle...

    Setting up a tom rack

Yep, those toms are sitting even higher than mine are right now. I worked with my kit a little more and it's not as bad as it was. I'll keep hacking away at it and see if I can come up with something else.

    Setting up a tom rack

I'm planning on adding another smaller tom to the rack, so that way I'd have 3 racks and a floor. I'll also add some crashes to the rack so the rack is necessary in my case I think. So far I've just put my throne up higher, as well as my snare and it's all fitting better. Not sure that's a very...

    Setting up a tom rack

What I meant is that I could push the kick drum way in front of me so that the toms won't be right on top of the kick. But that would make me sit too close to the toms. I'm a total noob and don't know what I'm doing if anyone can't tell :ROFLMAO:

    Setting up a tom rack

Moving the rack up and sitting higher is an option, yeah. I'll see what I can do. I just measured and my two toms are 11x12 and 12x13. Seems like these are the 'power tom' sizes. The kick is 16x22. It's a Tama Artstar ES kit. Currently the toms aren't at too much of an angle. Not flat, but not...

    Setting up a tom rack

Alright, newbie here that just got a kit. I have a Gibraltar rack and I'm trying to set up two rack toms and a kick underneath it. The kick is over to the right underneath the rack (double pedal requires it), and on top are my two rack toms. The left one mounts over the kick fine, but the one to...

Will Yamaha Tom mounts work for other brands?

By the way, I just checked my closet and I have a normal L rod mount, but it's a hex rod. Can that still work with Tama toms?

Will Yamaha Tom mounts work for other brands?

I have a Gibraltar tom rack with some clamps, and it came with what appears to be these Yamaha brand tom mounts with black balls and short hex rods. Will these fit some Tama toms? Something tells me that the hex rods probably aren't a good match. The Yamaha mounts I have are also not L rods either.

    90s Tama Kit differences

Good idea. I'll take a look around for a smaller tom :)

    90s Tama Kit differences

The only thing that concerns me is that I always wanted 3 rack toms and a floor tom. I'll have to buy some random smaller rack tom and mix it in with the others. Does it really matter that much if you mix something like that?

    90s Tama Kit differences

Hey guys, how would one go about getting the date of manufacture from a Tama kit? Do the serial numbers give anything away? I just pulled the trigger on an Artstar ES kit. Kick, two rack toms and a floor tom for $534.70 including tax and shipping. This way I can use the extra $$$ for some...

    90s Tama Kit differences

I was thinking the older ones would be cheaper, but I'll take a look at some newer ones too. My budget... I've got a hefty tom rack, a Tama snare and a few accessories already, so for the toms and kick alone I don't want to go over let's say $800 or so. If it comes with accessories (cymbals...

    90s Tama Kit differences

I've only got an electronic kit and I'm ready to upgrade to a real kit. I'm looking at some older catalogs from the 90s since I wanna go with an older used kit, and being inexperienced with drum gear, I don't really know what to go for. There are the Starclassic maple, birch and Performers, the...

    Heel Up Technique

New drummer here. There are quite a few different techniques I've read about for kick drums but I haven't found any information that explains everything clearly. Heel down seems to have your foot flat on the pedal, then you raise your toes/ball of foot a bit from the ankle and strike down with...

    Gibraltar Clamp hex nuts?

I have some Gibraltar clamps and one of them is missing a hex nut. I looked around and I only found a 6-pack on Ebay for $15. I'm not sure these are even the size I need, but maybe they're all a universal size. Surely there is a way to buy just one of these things at a time.

    Beginner's book?

Is there a good book that covers all of the rudiments (drum setups, the different types of drums and sizes etc) but also has some good exercises taking me from a beginner to intermediate or so?

Alesis DM5 kit - double bass?

New drummer here, just bought an Alesis DM5 kit to practice on before I get my real kit someday. The kit came with a Pintech kick drum sensor, not the original Alesis one. What would I need to get a double kick setup? I don't know if there is a special double pedal to buy, or if you just buy a...
