This was also my experience with the new Jazz model. They went with a centerless grinding method of manufacturing, and I guess they did away with the black plastic dipping rod for applying the finish. I didn't notice much change in the finish, however.

What heads are you using, and what tuning ranges do you find best? I find my MCX favors mid to higher tensions. It doesn't do as well with lower tunings given its thick shell.
I have the pneumatic tractor style seat and their round version. Since I sit with my thighs just above parallel to the floor and sit back further than a lot of players, I find the saddle type is best for me. I will say the round style is more plush, and would be better for someone over, say, 175...
