    Switching Back To Traditional Grip

    Switching Back To Traditional Grip

These personal stories about getting problems from trad. grip dont hold much value. Humans have the tendecy to push their views and experiences to other, without no actual data or scientific method done.(You do not make statistics out of one) How many matched grip players have had issues with...

    Safe distance from drums

Your ears are at least 1meter away from the engine, assuming you are "normal" height adult. But it still can be damaging, HECK the whole modern world is way too NOISY for human ears. Many have got used to it, I haven't and never will.

    Safe distance from drums

Yes, I know how Lwa measurements are done, its basically right next to it. For every doubling distance, the acoustical energy is halved(in theory), so that why it drops drastically at first.

    Remastered music

Lots of remasters (at one point of time, when loudness war was at peak) were purely done to make the old, 60-early 90's good recordings LOUD, which of course, makes them worse. There are so many albums that are totally destroyed by remasters, especially rock stuff, one good example: Nirvana's...

    Internal time and rudiments

Sounds interesting, haven't really thought about this. Will definitely try this out! I could probably do this at kit as well, some song on headphones and play rudiments on the kit.

    Safe distance from drums

This Lwa rating means its basically right next to the motor, people are at least 1meter/3.2ft away from the motor, the acoustic energy have DRASTICALLY lowered from that 101-102dB(A). For a comparsion if snare drum was measured in Lwa, it would probably measure 135-144dB(A) ?maybe even more...

    Internal time and rudiments

I have been using "Tempo" by Frozen Ape and "Tempo Advanced" from same company. You can also customize pretty much. Plus the latter has polyrythms. But this Time Guru seems to be even more customizable, and very affordable!

    Internal time and rudiments

Is pracitising simple rudiments on a pad; like paradiddles, singles and doubles sufficient enough to build up your internal clock? That it translates to lets say backbeat playing? I'm talking about setting the metronome so that there is only every two bars a click. 1click (2)no click 3(no click)...

    Switching Back To Traditional Grip

When I started actually playing and practising drums (instead of beating them without any thought, firstly gtr/bass player). I started learning trad. grip. My left hand got surpisingly fast in a short amount of time. Trad. grip felt natural to me, more like how my hands were positioned when...

    Queit good ride cymbal

Like mentioned earlier on this thread. Try Bosphorus master or master vintage 22"

    Queit good ride cymbal

I think, actually in a modern day, many jazz drummers go for the 22” size, because of the lower pitch. The cymbal volume is not tied to the gram weight. I had that Peter Erskine left side ride at one point, it was ~2500grams for a 20” it wasn’t ”loud cymbal”. Many ”paper” thin crashes can be...

    Queit good ride cymbal

The right terms should be do you want, cymbals that are loud, or cymbals that are extremely loud. I just feel it funny, when people say these and these drums are ”quiet” or cymbals that are ”quiet”..

    Queit good ride cymbal

Yes, but drums played ”quietly” is still ”loud” to our ears. My 22” bosphorus was very light 1900grams.

    Queit good ride cymbal

Loudness is relative to us i think, I have had 21" Bosphorus master vintage and 22" master ride, they weren't ear piercing, but definitely not quiet. Quiet to me is 30-60dB(c) and never came across, these truly quiet cymbals. We have to remember, drums and cymbals are EXTRAORDINARY LOUD...

    Breaking sticks

I do also powerlift, without sterioids of course, not that dumb to use them. But I don't regulary even break 7A sticks. I agree with @Xstr8edgtnrdrmrX that usually bashing and beating drums to death is just lack of ability to play better.

Mic'ing drums, do you need tom mics?

I know. Have built couple studios.

Mic'ing drums, do you need tom mics?

From my experience, the "Glyn Jonhs" techinque works only properly in big to huge rooms. Like how it was meant to be used.. Laws of physics haven't changed :)

Mic'ing drums, do you need tom mics?

Before you really have to start to stress out about mic quality, your room has way bigger impact. Bad room sound = it colors everything with it sound. Drums are fun instrument in that point, you can have really character room and drums might sound just killer there. IMO still, best drum sounds...
