    Never breaking cymbals

I've never broken a cymbal. I'm tempted to say it's down to my good technique but I've heard that Steve Gadd cracked a few old K's back in the day

"Snare Drum" training and "Drum Set" training

Any kind of formal drum set instruction is going to require you to spend a ton of time just playing the snare (or a pad) to learn hand technique. There are different ways of approaching this though, some teachers may just have you work through an exercise book (like Master Studies) and some may...

How to Check the Accuracy of Timing?

I really like using the Gap click app. It lets you choose a number of measures to have withthe click and then gives you the same number of measures without the click. And then you can go in the opposite direction as well by putting a regular metronome on 8ths or 16ths instead of quarters.

Help Please: How to tune drums for big boomy gym??

I'd say put some tape on the bottom of the cymbals ala Gadd

Do you crash with your non-dominant hand?

Yes, most often it's when I want to play two crashes, one on the 4 (or 4+/e) with the left and one on the 1 with the right. Any kind of crash on the off beat usually ends being the left hand as well.

If you only have one crash cymbal, what size is it?

You've got a point--I always felt silly pairing my 24" Giant Beat with just the 18". The 20" needs to be there.

    Bass pattern with walk

Interesting question... I'd say it's personal preference as I've definitely played and heard it both ways. Walking bass with bass drum on 1 and 3 can sound nice in country.

    Tune-Bot and Snare Drums

Nice review. I've been thinking of getting one and this might just push me over the edge.

    Different forms of traditional grip

Agreed. Stewart hit EXTREMELY hard in the Police days. There's an interview where he mentions he's able to get more power through traditional. He actually plays two versions, one regular and one where it sits on the middle finger instead of the ring finger--I think that one is his "power" grip.

    Different forms of traditional grip

As a traditional grip player I never understood the tilting toward you--that just reduces rebound for the left hand. I think Vinnie still plays like that--he must just have really strong hands The optimal angle is to follow the angle of the stick (although maybe not as extreme). I used to just...

    Recommend a QUIETER/affordable SNARE head?(or set)

Putting a wallet on it will muffle the drum, dropping the volume some while giving you a tighter sound. It'll still be loud though

    The tempo is wrong!!

A solution, yes. But I'd never want to play to a click for EVERYTHING. Human tempo fluctuations have always been part of the fun of live performance imo. But to each his own.

Anyone own and use an alternative to Axis Longboard

Have you tried a heavier beater or putting a counter weight on the shaft? In my experience that's the surest way of getting more power.

Top 15 Noodly Doodly Drummers Who Hit It Big on MTV

Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart wore suits for MTV videos? I haven't seen that but I'll take your word for it

Whats the hardest drum part you know?

Ah I call that the Ringo shuffle! He plays it the fastest I've ever heard. Songs like Help! and What Goes On.

Top 15 Noodly Doodly Drummers Who Hit It Big on MTV

I have no idea what this list is ranking. Could I get an explanation, preferably using first person pronouns?

    Vintage DW 5000 part

I appreciate the reply--I did end up ordering a new chain with the attachment on the end. I would think having it float off of the footboard instead of rubbing would make for somewhat smoother action.

Do any drummers actually enjoy performing on e-kits?

I hate it, and I only use mine to practice in an apartment. It's not so bad until you hop back on a nicely tuned acoustic kit and experience everything you've been missing. The e kit just doesn't respond the same. I actually prefer practicing on my Meinl Marshmallow pad for technique stuff...
