Taye is still in business, and their StudioMaple snares are really good. I got a new StudioMaple kit 10 years ago and ordered a Taye nickel over brass snare to go with it because I figured the stock StudioMaple snare wouldn't be that good. The stock StudioMaple snare turned out to be...
I think the part is brilliant. Steve makes it interesting (and complicated) on several levels all while keeping the drive of the groove going with the quarter notes on the bass drum. Great stuff.
I saw Sepultura open for Testament a few years ago. Never was into them, so I had no idea who was in the band or anything like that. But watching Eloy play was definitely the highlight of the night. (And this is when Gene Hoglan was playing with Testament) The guy was a monster on the drums.
My Taye StudioMaple kit came with a matching snare, and it was mostly an afterthought when I ordered the kit because I ordered a nickel over brass snare along with it with the idea that the nickel over brass snare would be what I used. But that stock matching snare turned out to be a very good...
Back when I was 14 or 15 I poured isopropyl alcohol on my cymbals and lit them on fire. I'm not sure where I got the idea from. It's cool for a few seconds, and then the alcohol burns off. So I poured more on and lit them... and a glob of flaming alcohol fell from the cymbal on to the carpet and...
We always use wedges, and I never have them put any drums through them. If I'm concerned with how they sound FOH I can ask someone if they sound ok or have someone else hit the drums while I go out and listen myself.
I've gigged both guitar and drums, but I'm waaaay better at drums than guitar. The main thing I liked about gigging as a guitar player is it's a lot easier to load in a combo amp and 2 guitars as opposed to an entire drum set.
The best way I can compare the two is that when I gig on the...
I didn't talk to him at the show, but i did send him a message (via MySpace...to give you an idea how long ago this was 😄) and he told me that he had fun at that gig.
Years ago at a local Salt Lake City bar I saw the 'Metal Gods' 80s rock cover band. They played there every Thursday night for years. I believe the Metal Gods was kind of a group from a Vegas-based talent agency. I think the agency had a roster of players who could do the gig, so every now and...
This just popped up on my Facebook memories from 2018, and that was the last time I went to NAMM. Taye doesn't exhibit anymore, unfortunately, so there isn't too much reason for me to go.
I've never been into vintage drums (pretty much anything from the 70's and earlier) because I can't imagine what I would do with it. They don't appear to be drums you could take to gigs over and over and reliably play 3 hours of power rock. Maybe I'm wrong, but they just aren't my taste...
New Year's Eve- several in my hometown (Salt Lake City). Idaho Falls most recently. Amman, Jordan a few years ago. I think we did 2 gigs on NYE in 2009 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Birthday (June 12) - I know we've had a couple local gigs on my birthday, but don't remember exactly what year...
I love Foreigner, but probably wouldn't even walk across the street to see their touring tribute band for free.
Lou Gramm, on the other hand, I'll pay good money to see Lou.
