Why are DW drums so overpriced?

Mine was probably audible too. I played an old set of Camcos for a stage show and they were the warmest sounding drums I’ve ever heard - with coated Ambassadors no less!. So I was sold - but unfortunately they had been out of business for a while by then. So when I found DW, I was happy...

Why are DW drums so overpriced?

Since this thread hasn’t been closed yet, I love the round lug. I’ve loved it ever since I saw Camco drums in the 70s.

Why are DW drums so overpriced?

This is an argument that’s been made many times over the years. I suggest closing this thread.

I’ve committed to the 18” floor tom

Thanks for the link but my trap cases are taller than the truck bed, and if using my rock n roller cart, I leave that extended with the guide arms up too.

If you have a Gretsch USA snare...do you continue to use Permatone heads or do you use something else?

I guess if you like the Permatone, then keep using it. I like having a little bit of give that you get without the dot, so I’ll either go emperor or ambassador, or G1 or G2. I had a 8x14 USA snare years ago that I put a coated PowerStroke 4 on and it was the ultimate PHAT snare.

    And it was amateur hour!

The gig was another amateur hour thing too - but I’ll touch upon it. The band decided to allow two friends to play with the band, but did everything backwards. For starters, I would set the band up first, get their sound together, THEN add-in the two extras. Makes sense to me. These guys did...

    Having fun on stage

So you’re experiencing “paralysis by analysis”? At this point, if you can execute, but it’s still not fun, maybe take a step back and figure out if music is really the way for you? It’s supposed to be a fun thing, otherwise, why put yourself through all that for no reward? Or maybe you’re...

    And it was amateur hour!

Ugh! Felt like such a schlub for tonight’s gig! I pack everything in the truck and head down the road for the hour drive to the gig and 20 minutes into the drive I realize “I forgot to pack my bass drum mic”. I debate if I should turn around and go back to get it, but realize I packed two...

    Having fun on stage

It depends on what you put first. If the goal is to make music to the best of your ability (and the bands’ abilities), then you have to have your craft together. If I’m struggling to play a particular passage or groove and can’t relax, the fun is not going to happen. Everybody on stage has to...

Do you buy heads just to have spares?

Yes. Heads aren’t like food. They can store. But if it makes you feel better, you can put them in the fridge 😉 I have a complete set of heads that fits in what used to be the cymbal compartment in my 24x24x12 trap case. There are also spare bass drum beaters, extra pedal and pedal...

I’ve committed to the 18” floor tom

You need to play a kit more than once to get used to what’s there. We always talk about practice and practicing things slowly over time before becoming comfortable with anything - so you can’t really declare “it’s hard to reach” if you’ve only done it once. For some reason, I’m considered...

Question about Gibraltar 6710 cymbal stand

If anybody knows this info, I’d appreciate it: I have a double tom bass drum mount with a 1” downtube. Can the Gibraltar 6710 cymbal stand base (the part with the legs) accept 1” tubes? It’s a little unclear how they word it on their website so if anyone has experience with this stand, I...

I’ve committed to the 18” floor tom

I keep my throne locked - but my 18” is actually pushed out more to the side rather than behind me.

I’ve committed to the 18” floor tom

I remember Neil Peart saying he’s always hated 14” toms in a long ago interview. Frankly I’m surprised that ALL the drum manufacturers didn’t eliminate that size of tom on his declaration alone 😂

I’ve committed to the 18” floor tom

My next crazy idea is actually using TWO 22” bass drums since I still have my identical black Rogers kit 🙀

I’ve committed to the 18” floor tom

I suppose it is like carrying around an extra bop bass drum 😉. But I’ve tried 14” and 16” floor toms and really hate 14” floor toms. It’s like those are too big to be an effective rack tom, and too small to be an effective floor tom. To me it’s like the “unwanted” drum!
