    Hal Blaine

I also never knew Hal had to work as a security guard. Reminds me of Dick Dale suffering from several debilitating illnesses, yet was forced to keep touring to pay for his medical bills. Just crushing to see people make such positive contributions and then have to struggle late in life.

Okay to buy drum bags that are slightly deeper than my drums?

I've used larger sizes without issue. Sometimes you can even fit extra stuff in there. For a while I was filling the extra space in my floor tom bag with my round throne seat.

Hard to say. If money was no object, I'd say Tama Star, but I hear there's a bit of a wait these days....

    Not sure how to feel...

Did he then go behind the bar and make himself a drink? Bartenders love it when people do that.

    Not sure how to feel...

Oh man, I'd laugh in their face if someone made that demand.

    New drum shortage worldwide???

Hi. Very sorry about your frustrations, but it saddens me that you're rejecting drumming when the problems you're describing lie with corporations and governments. Drumming rises above them, and in fact existed long before they did. If drumming is no longer rewarding for you, that's...

    Travis Orbin

A very interesting drummer from my perspective. I'm not really into the music he plays, but I discovered him after I converted to open-handed drumming and started setting up my kit like this: So I was pretty stoked when I found Travis on youtube. I got all sorts of ideas by watching him, so...

    Stewart Copeland on Jazz...

Based on this, it seems like he's just "taking the piss" as the Brits say. In other words, not to be taken seriously.

Anyone have a pic of world max snare seam?

Ok, it must have been low light the last time I looked, because in bright light, I spotted it right away. This is from a Worldmax-branded 5x14 shell.

    Stewart Copeland on Jazz...

(Just testing out the new GIF feature. For the record, I love Billie Holiday and Head Hunters blows my mind.)

Anyone have a pic of world max snare seam?

Now this is interesting. As I recall, the seam on my Worldmax snare was a little hard to find because it was finished so well. Now I have to get it out tomorrow and take off the head just to satisfy my curiosity.

Tama gear, long waits and low availability

Sure, but not out of necessity. That was a choice they made, and now they aren't able to meet the demand for their product, even if you live down the street from their headquarters.

Tama gear, long waits and low availability

From an American perspective, it's easier to accept when there are shipping delays with a Japanese company. But when an American company can't deliver to American customers, that is a failure of the company.

East Coast Drum Teacher looking to move to the West Coast - advice needed!

Let me start by saying I'm not trying to dump on your dreams, I just think it's interesting that you're in such an inverse situation from me. That you dream of moving to a place that I'm sort of desperate to get out of. So it might be useful to you to know why. I'm a life-long CA resident. I've...

    Dom Famularo

Dom is the guy who really sold me on open-handed drumming, so I think it's safe to say I would not be the drummer I am today if not for him. Never met him, yet he's been a major influence on me. I hope he gets well soon.

do you get stressed other drummers are better than you?

No, not at all, otherwise I'd be stressed all the time. Also, audiences are moved by more than just wicked chops. If you lay down a fun groove for them to dance to, and look like you're having fun while doing it, they will probably respond well.

When Click Track Hurts More Than Helps

Nooo! Don't do them any favors after the finger was pointed at you for poor timekeeping, otherwise they'll never learn and the timing issues will never go away. This is one of my favorite quotes, from Jabo Starks. It's what he was told by the rest of the JBs when he first joined: "They taught...

Drumeo - Great Instructional Web Site For Drum Training

One-on-one is great as long as you find a good teacher. When I started out, I took lessons from "teachers" who shouldn't have been, and effectively paid to develop bad habits which took years to undo. My experience of being self-taught and watching youtube videos has actually been much better. I...

    Okay, these "drum covers".

That's why I made a couple. I didn't have any recent videos of me playing, and I'm not currently in a band, so I made a couple drum covers, shot from audience point-of-view, to show: -My playing ability -That I can keep time -What I look like while playing -What my kit looks like -The type of...
