Hi! I recently recorded a comparison video of my Zildjian hi-hat cymbals, featuring Fat Hats, New Beat, K Sweet, K Light, Kerope and Quick Beat hats.
What are your favourites?
Thanks Rhumbagirl! You already got the mic specs...I used a little bit of gated reverb for the snare but otherwise, it was a very basic mix. The kick sound is the combination of inside Beyerdynamic e901 and Yamaha Subkick, which was pretty loud this time.
Thanks cjj! That snare was 14x5,5 Yamaha Club Custom coupled with regular Big Fat Snare head. Actually from the front camera, it sounded pretty much like the Billy Jean snare.
Hi Drummerworld people!
I heard this new Weeknd track today and wrote a quick chart to learn it and do a drum cover.
Sometimes the simplest thing, like a quarter note hi-hat pattern, is really difficult :)
Hope you enjoy it.
I haven't tried SM7b yet, it's a little bulky sized if I want to have it near the hi-hat. I usually boost a little bit of 100 hz for the SM57 (Chris Lord-Alge does that often) to make it bigger sounding and cut around 350 or 500 hz and boost from 6 k a little bit.
Thanks! I decided to leave the full mix part off the video because it would have been so long and there aren't so big differences when you have overheads covering the snare mic details. I used Universal Audio Apollo x8p and their API Vision preamp (no eq/comp/gate). I didn't drive the channel...
SM57 is The snare reference mic and there's a reason for that! I think that cheap Vocaltone SM57 copy sounded almost better, with more highs & lows. I paid 10 € for that mic :)
Hi,
I recently recorded 11 popular snare mics with 3 different tunings. There are high-end mics and some bargains.
I was surprised by how good one of the bargains sounded. And these are without any eq, you can download the raw files from the link in the video description and try some...
Hey, that's my comparison video :) Great that it helped to choose Smooth White Emperors! I need to try that kick head, been using a regular clear PS3 or coated PS3 for years.
Merry Christmas!
Here's the last Recap or Making of video for my Bell Brass Snare Comparison series. There's also 4th snare, Sorva Custom Bell Brass 3mm with triple flanged hoops and different snare head (Ambassador) and a short tour of my recording setup for these videos.
Hi!!
I tried to find some current pop music for a new drum cover and this is what I found. It's originally programmed with different kicks and extra hi-hats (trap stuff) but I played it like I would play at the gig without electronics and backing tracks. Let me know what did you think :)
Thanks!
This Tama is my drum but the others were for a loan...I really liked Gretsch as a normal all around snare but I don't think it sounds like a "Bell Brass" snare. I just edited the second part for this video and will release it tomorrow so please check out that if your opinion changes :)
