Is there something going on w Modern Drummer? Subscription Issues

I might have hung in there with them if they bothered to post anything on their social media about the problems or sent a generic email outreach to paid subscribers, but nothing. MD was all over social media acting like nothing was happening. (this was because they were in the process of...

Thinking of getting my dream kit.

Assuming you’re in the US, I’d suggest a trip to one of the bigger shops to try out as many sets and manufacturers as possible. Even if you’re sold on DW, you might find something different/unexpected that sounds and feels really special.

Is there something going on w Modern Drummer? Subscription Issues

I flipped it over and see the October 2023 cover, so I guess it is a double issue. Does this count as two months of my subscription??

Is there something going on w Modern Drummer? Subscription Issues

It looks like the regular monthly issue. Max and Jay Weinberg are on the cover. I’m excited to read about what’s new for Jay and Slipknot. Oh wait…

Is there something going on w Modern Drummer? Subscription Issues

Welp, yesterday I randomly received the September 2023 MD issue in the mail. It’s been over a year since I’ve even thought about MD and I don’t even remember the last time I got an issue. I think this is maybe the third random issue I’ve received since re-subscribing during the pandemic.

Gretsch Brooklyn VS. Ludwig Classic Maple

I agree that Brooklyn's sound very similar to the Maple/Poplar Ludwigs. I had a set of the Ludwig Super Classics and punchy is how I'd describe em. I've played a set of Brooklyn's and they've got a rounded punch to them with less of the Gretsch twang than the Gretsch USAs.

Why Foo Fighters Fans Are Already Upset with New Drummer Josh Freese

I saw Taylor backing Alanis Morissette at a club in Boston just as Jagged Little Pill was breaking. It must have been a warm up gig before the big tour and maybe one of his first shows with her. Taylor was raw and aggressive...maybe getting close to frantic at the start of the show. After a...

Good Bass Drum to compliment Gretsch Brooklyn

Of the drums that are within your reach, I vote renown. It's an all maple shell, but it has the same bearing edges and that great Gretsch sound (couldn't resist). Renowns sound great.

    Drum collecting

He's somewhat local to me and I can vouch for wacko vibes. He's been selling drums and hardware out of a storage unit for years. I've got no problem with that, but he used to come up with stories as to why he was selling all of his equipment. "Due to health concerns, my loss is your gain."...

Why for such a great drummer seems difficult to learn such an easy song?

He did a great job after listening and giving a few tries. I don't see him struggling with it, so much as taking a little time to learn it and get the feel.

    AVA - Drum Builds

The leopardwood snare looks stunning! I'm not familiar with that wood at all...How would you describe the tone of leopardwood? Edit: I found the video on your site. It sounds really buoyant...not sure if that makes sounds great!

Weird drum related things that bother you, but probably no one else?

I enjoy playing with an odd number of toms more than an even number.

SUVs for gigging? I'm considering a vehicle change.

I have a Durango. Plenty of space even with the 2nd row up. Lower both rows and you could fit an entire band's gear. Height is good for getting stuff in and out. Not too high and not too low. Easy to drive too.

    Anyone dealt with tennis elbow?

I have golfer's elbow which is on the inside of the arm vs. tennis elbow which is on the outside. Mine flares up every now and then, but is only really an issue when I'm working out. Amazon has a bunch of cheap, simple braces that help with support if it's bugging you. I have one that I use...

    un-impressed with DW

The true pitch rods add turns when first getting em tuned up, but my set stays in tune so well that any tweaks I have to make over time are negligible. For me, the net effect is actually fewer turns of the drum key over time. I've never had a problem getting a variety of great sounds from...

Gretsch USA customs, shell bank is realised

I had a 70's set that I got from Steve Maxwell's in NY and it was a mojo set for sure. The only reason I sold it was it was old and the hardware Gretsch used at the time wasn't great by any means. All of the lugs were attached using self tapping screws which were a pain in the rear...nothing...

Gretsch USA customs, shell bank is realised

Twang is the right word. They've got this slight twangy bite that is so satisfying

Ever changed something about the positioning of your kit after playing someone else's?

Same. Especially when the pedal(s) feel completely different from mine.
