Two floor tom set ups. 14/16 or 16/18?

I have two kits, both with two floor toms. One has a 14x14 matched with a 14x16. The other has a 12x14 and 14x16. What I would really like is a 14x14 and a 16x16. That to me would be ideal. Never had an 18 so can't comment on that size.

City or country, urban or rural?

I would suggest that anyone who participates on this forum is not a misanthrope. A true misanthrope would totally avoid any connection with society and would not be caught dead talking with others on social media.

City or country, urban or rural?

I learned about black flies the hard way. Went backpacking with a friend many years ago in May. When we got to our tent site and sat down to make dinner, they came out of nowhere and attacked. My friend said I had a cloud of black flies over my head. I tried to cover up as best I could but...

City or country, urban or rural?

I hear you and agree. I am known for my saying "I hate people." If I had my Adirondack cabin I would probably spend more of my time there than in my urban/suburban home. The only time I would not be in the Adirondacks would be during black fly season which runs for about 6 weeks around May...

City or country, urban or rural?

I grew up on Long Island about a half hour outside of Manhattan. Then when I moved out of my parents house I ended up in New Jersey about the same distance from Manhattan, about a half hour. When I was a kid my parents sent me to a very rough summer camp in the Adirondacks. We did sleep in...

China/Trash Cymbals - to have, or not to have

I have a 17” Zildjian Dark China. Thin and tinny it is not. But as others have said, it depends on the kind of music you are playing.

Is Cakewalk confusing or am I a moron?

Proof that I am a much bigger moron than you. I also have no idea what DAW is. I sort of know what midi is but if you asked me to explain what it is, we’d be out of luck. 🤪

Is Cakewalk confusing or am I a moron?

No. I’m an even bigger moron than you. Why? I don’t even know what cakewalk is.

What are you listening to right now?

Nothing but the sound of crickets and other night insects. Some of the most glorious music on earth.

Are my drumming days numbered - hand pain getting bad

You won’t know until you go. Do some research and find a doctor who is reputable and maybe even one who has worked with drummers. You aren’t the first drummer to have hand issues.

Are my drumming days numbered - hand pain getting bad

Assuming the pain you have is in your hands, rather than get a million different responses from us who know nothing, go see an orthopedic surgeon or specialist and have them determine exactly what is causing the pain and whether there is anything that can be done about it.

Anyone know how much touring drummers get paid?

My going rate is $10,000 per gig. I guess that’s why I don’t gig much. Come to think of it, I don’t gig at all.

What are your Top 5 things to look for when buying a used drum kit?

I also look into consensus as to quality and durability of hardware. I want to know how they will hold up. And of course how they sound. If they don’t sound good, then nothing else matters. I’m only referring to acoustic drums since I’ve never owned electronic drums.

Opinions on band getting stand in drummer

I hear you. My comment was a bit tongue in cheek but I realize humor does not always come across as intended in this format. But whether he’s a hired gun or not, it still is a business. There could be any number of reasons they may have for deciding to find another drummer. All I was trying...

    Hall and Oates

Absolutely. I was very psyched when I saw Dunne sit behind the kit. Knew I was in for a great show.

I think the moderators do a great job here!

I have to say my mid 1970’s Slingerland Stage Band toms smell incredible to me. That old yet distinct smell of a thin coat of clear lacquer on the inside is just intoxicating for me. I recently replaced the batters and was treated once again to that heavenly scent.

I think the moderators do a great job here!

Unfortunately you rarely post facts and your posts are definitely not respectful. I have found that when you are unable to get someone to agree with the points you are making, you quickly resort to personal attacks and condescending attitude. Just my experience. Other’s may have observed...

I had not seen that article. All of what they say about Dunne is true. I’m definitely a fan.
