    Tama Swingstar questions

Haha! Thanks. Like I said, some minor tweaking to follow, but I checked the inside of two of the toms and there are zero issues. Not sure why these are “bargain” Tama drums. They look and sound more expensive. Also, I’ve never owned Tama drums, and I decided if I was getting a “rock” kit, now...

Yes, it helps when the wife likes the color! Or anything remotely having to do with the drums.

    Tama Swingstar questions

She’s mine! Pics to follow - maybe later or tomorrow. Having too much fun playing on the thing. May have to tweak it a little and get some new heads (it has old Remo Weatherking Pinstripes on the toms, with duct tape on too for muffling?). But it’s fun playing these larger sizes for now and the...

    Tama Swingstar questions

Thanks for the info! So...the genesis of my query is that I recently purchased a Yamaha Stage Custom Bop birch kit. Love it. Only issue will be I will probably have to mic the bass drum. Then I realized the old Tama Imperialstar in my local studio (10 lug metal hoop 22x16 or 22x14?) doesn’t need...

    Tama Swingstar questions

Thanks! According to the owner, it’s got new Remo Pinstripe heads batter side on toms and a Remo Powerstroke 3 batter Bass head with ported black kick reso. Was it heavy to lug around? Do you recall what it was made of? Did you mic it?

    Tama Swingstar questions

Yes. I agree it’s a good deal. I just want some additional info before pulling the trigger.

    Tama Swingstar questions

Guys, I have a chance to buy a Tama Swingstar with the accu-tone black hoops for $200 from a local guy. Sizes are 12”, 13”, 16” with a 22”x16” bass drum. I’m considering it because they are similar sizes to an old Imperialstar in my local studio that sounds great and is unmiced. Some questions...

    What's better

I always have fun when I’m practicing by myself. The stress kicks in when I’m playing a gig in front of people. Then after the gig, I realize no one in the crowd heard any of my multiple mistakes. Still hard to enjoy it because I heard the mistakes. So I’m harder on myself than anyone else is.

    Disappointed with Pearl Roadshow

Geez. That is super frustrating. Bad grade all around for Pearl and Sweetwater on this one.

    Disappointed with Pearl Roadshow

Ugh. Sorry to hear your story. You shouldn’t have to pay anything to ship it back. I’d also be leery of getting another Roadshow.....

[In Concert] Yamaha Stage Custom Bebop Kit - Beautiful Love (Victor Young)

I’ve got an Aquarian Super Kick II on the batter of mine. Still experimenting with different resos. I’ve tried a ported reso with no muffling, ported reso with muffling, and lastly the stock Yamaha reso unported. I’m used to a ported reso as I usually bury the beater. But so far, the unported...

[In Concert] Yamaha Stage Custom Bebop Kit - Beautiful Love (Victor Young)

I think the toms will hold their own. It’s more the bass drum. Wonder if micing it is enough.

[In Concert] Yamaha Stage Custom Bebop Kit - Beautiful Love (Victor Young)

Awesome! Looking forward to it. I’d like to see if this can hold its own in a bar with electric guitars.

Have you tried this kit in a pop/rock setting? Curious how it would pull that off.

What's your most important gear that is NOT drum set related.

A small book light I clamp to my lyrics/setlist book, so I can see in the dark.

    Any serious Lap Drummers?

They have small pads that attach to your knee (or other part of your leg) so you don’t have to hit your leg.
